This is just a vague title. There is .Hack GU, Legend of the Twilight, Roots, Sign, and more. I am able to say honestly, I haven't watch every single one of the series, but I have watch at least 80% of them. It's a series similar to Sword Art Online (or SAO is similar to it, because it came out before SAO ever did) with the concept. In that sense, it takes place in a video game. Some more characteristics that are the same is in the series .Hack Sign, the character Tsubasa can't log off, same with Hermit in the .Hack Quantum series.
In general, I can't say that these Mae my favorite lists, cause I can't call any series "favorites" or "hates", but I do like it enough to have the original .Hack books that started it, the .Hack Legend of the Twilight manga, the book series .hack//AI buster, and the complete .Hack Sign on DVD
So if you like a sort of action and mystery like anime, this one fits those categories.
