Ariana Grande-Butera was born on June 26, 1993 in Boca Raton, Florida.
Her mother is the CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, a company that manufactures communications equipment for the US Navy. Her father, Edward Butera, is a graphic designer.
Ariana exhibited a strong interest in music from an early age, performing with the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theater, on cruise ships and singing The Star-Spangled Banner for the Florida Panthers.
Ariana's early breakthrough when she was cast in the Nickelodeon show Victorious in 2009. The show was a huge hit, premiering in 2010 to the channel's second-largest audience ever with 5.7 million viewers. The second season premiere drew 6.2 million viewers.
Despite a burgeoning acting career, Ariana wanted to become a singer and began recording covers of Adele and Mariah Carey songs and uploading them to YouTube.
A record contract with Republic Records and three years-work later Ariana's debut album Yours Truly was released.
The album was released in August 2013 and went straight to No.1 on Billboard 200 and reached Top 10 in countries including the UK, Australia and Ireland.
A year later, Ariana scored her consecutive No.1 album with My Everything, the lead single of which, Problem, went to No.1 on the UK charts.
The album's second single, Break Free, has been viewed nearly one billion times on YouTube, while Problem has been viewed 1.1 billion times.
In 2015, Ariana went on her The Honeymoon Tour, which included shows in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. The tour reportedly sold over 800,000 tickets and made $40 million.
However, her next tour, to promote her third album Dangerous Woman, performed even better. Covering five continents and selling 875,000 tickets, the Dangerous Woman tour earned $71 million.
The album itself peaked at No.2 on Billboard 200 and hit top spot in the UK charts. Her song Side to Side, which features Nicki Minaj, has been viewed 1.3 billion times on YouTube.
