As we walked down the pier we heard a scream. An old, frail man was holding a little boy over the edge of the pier. How could he do that I wondered. He was so shaky he could drop the child any minute now. SPLASH! My mind went dark. I was furious. A little boy as innocent as a mouse and the only respect he gets is being pushed over the edge of the pier."excuse me" I said to Jane as I rushed toward the edge. I took off my coat and dived into the water. " I'm coming" I yelled. The water was bright blue and was so cold it felt like a million knives and nails were digging into my skin. In the middle of winter there is not much you can do except imagine its summer. I had to stay strong.that boy depended on me and it was up to me to save his life.

The waves splashed against my face and I held my breath as they pulled me under.I was just hoping it wouldn't happen to him or he would be gone. I couldn't let him drown like this. Every time I went under he would just float away. A gush of wind blew him closer. I could see his tears preying he would be okay. He was slowly giving up and he was thinking the only choice would be to die. I took the thought out of his head."I'm willing to help you but you have to hang in there" I said and his head nodded. I swam with all my might and finally I could reach him. I hugged him tightly and pulled his head out of the water. I told him he is safe and he doesn't need to worry. Together, we swam to the edge of the pier." Grab on" I say and he grabbed on. Jane came to help pull him up onto the pier safely. I jumped up and put my coat around him. I picked him up and told him it's ok. A husky laugh came from behind.THAT STUPID OLD FART! He had just scarred this boy for life and all he did was laugh. I gave him a filthy glare and walked away with the boy crying and moping on my shoulder.the man refused me to take him and started punching me and the boy.Jane punched him back and we ran off.Jane was beside me patting the boy on the back, constantly whispering its ok and he'll be fine. I could feel him shivering on my shoulder so, I fixed the coat up and he settled down. I was so happy he survived. We managed to get out in the open surrounded by people. Suspicion was coming towards the old man on why he was chasing us. When he realized that these people are curious he nicked off hopping he wouldn't be reported.
