I took Daniella down to the lobby, where Lisa said she had seen Abigail. She was gone. I growled under my breath. "Sam?..." I looked at Daniella. "What did 20 do?..." I sighed.
"We can't put the blame on her yet... Not until we know for sure. But I think she's been experimenting on nurses."
"Wh-Why would she do that?"
"Power." She stared at me. "This all hurts my head..." "I know it does..." I sat her down next to a couple other Rebels. "Keep an eye on Daniella for me... I need to talk to 20." I made my way down to her office, which wasn't far from the lobby. When I knocked on the door and entered, she looked at me. "Hello, Sam."
"Hello, 20..."
"Go ahead and take a seat." I sat in a bean bag chair across from her desk. In the bean bag chair next to me was Kelby, 20's younger brother. Well, they weren't blood related. 20 found Kelby after her dad had gone crazy and her real brother mysteriously died.
"So, what is it you need Sam?" I looked at Kelby, wondering if he even knew what happened to Abigail. I thought he would, considering he's the second in command, but knowing 20's place as leader, maybe I wasn't right.
"Well, there's this nurse..." Before I even finished my sentence, 20 tensed. "Kelby, why don't you head outside." He shrugged and stood up. "Just buy me lunch tomorrow." He walked out and closed the door behind him. 20 hadn't taken her eyes off of me.
"20 what's going on?" She sighed.
"Guess I have a lot of explaining to do. The Olives have been crazy lately... Attacking every Rebel they can, even finding some outside of the base, like Shadow and Lisa. They are blood lust and will stop at nothing to defeat the Rebels and I.A."
"What does this have to do with Abigail?" I asked, confused.
She looked down, a hint of guilt looming in her eyes. "I asked Jack to make a poison that could make someone stronger. He's the best with chemicals, and I put all my trust in him, as usual. We tested it on Abigail first. In the beginning, she seemed strong. She was working at an amazing speed, taking care of patient after patient." Her expression darkened. "But it wasn't enough for me."
"What do you mean?"
"I wanted her even stronger... I wanted to make someone so powerful they could defeat the Olives all by themselves if they wanted... So I added more ingredients to the poison. That's when Abigail lost it. She screamed at people, snuck into rooms, and terrorized patients."
"Isn't there a cure?"
"Jack's working on it." I looked down, wondering if Abigail still had a sane conscious. If she did, she must've been in a constant panicked state.
"I know I've messed up Sam... I just don't know what to do in order to fix it." She put her head down on the desk.
"Well, I suppose as long as Abigail is the only one who's been experimented on, we can keep the danger to a minimum." She squeezed her fists.
"It's in Shadow..."
