Chapter 9: The Bosses
Lesedi
It was a Friday; and just like any other Friday night, The Black Sheep was packed.
I had not seen Aiden since deal night because work was just too hectic.
One of my suppliers sent in a bad load of produce which pretty much ruined the entire week for me.
I had to literally remove five items from the menu on Tuesday until I got temporary stocks from a different supplier.
Sure, it was the more expensive option, but it was a bigger loss to wait for a re-delivery on Thursday, from my usual supplier.
I spent the rest of the week remaking my accounts and phoning up suppliers in the hopes of finding backups for each product.
I couldn't afford another mishap like this one, and I sure as hell was going to do everything I could to avoid it.
On a brighter note, I had managed to find two temp servers who came in every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, since they were our busiest nights.
That meant I could focus more on managing fires rather than being in the middle of them, so to speak.
I had just finished all the accounting I could handle for this week and closed the books to take a breather, when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in", I called out.
It was Madison.
"We've got a couple of bosses!", she said sounding defeated.
"They keep ordering buttered lobster and grilled oysters when it's clearly not on the menu", she continued.
"So, I tried explaining to them nicely, that it was not available and they just said that they came to have lobster and oysters and that's what they'll have and if I can't do my job properly, I should just call my manager.", she finished almost in tears.
There was a reason we called customers like these, bosses; if we were to use correct terminology, it would be B.O.S.S - Born of Satan's Scrotum.
Which eventually just became 'A boss' if it was one customer and 'bosses' if it was more.
I mean, to think the frequency of these types of customers got so bad that we had to coin terminology for easy reference.
The food industry can be brutal sometimes.
"Which table?", I asked coolly.
"Table 14", she replied.
I handed Madison a tissue and walked out guns blazing, ready for war.
As I neared Table 14, instead of seeing a bunch of impatient customers as expected, I saw familiar faces, grinning.
'They didn't...' , I thought.
'No. It couldn't be...' , I debated internally.
"Kara and...err...Liam?", I sounded, stunned.
"You remembered!", Kara exclaimed and jumped out of her seat and hugged me like we had known each other for ages.
I hugged her back, still a bit stunned by the whole situation.
"Hey Lessie!", Liam smiled following Kara's hug.
"What brings you to The Black Sheep?", I managed to say while forming something of a smile.
"We were in the mood for lobsters and oysters", Liam said smiling mischievously, reminding me of the reason I came out of the office.
"Wait, did you just make one of my servers, cry...for kicks?", I asked, unamused.
