Chapter 2 - Car Ride

We walk out into the burning sun. I could smell the burning tar of the parking lot. I felt the cool breeze blow my hat slightly I could see it blowing the leaves on the big oak tree, that just months ago was bare with the glimmer of ice upon its branches. I look at my hand realizing I haven't been outside since before winter. I'm so pale I look sickly. I slowly walk up to the car. I opened the car and sat in the passenger seat. I could feel the heat radiating off the seat. I pull my seat belt on and we began to move. I pull my headphones and my mp3 player. Pushing my earbuds in, I feel the music fill my head; it's 'Override [A]' by Area 11. I stare out the window watching the scenery go by, I could no longer hear the music. I began to focus back on the music trying to hear, no, feel the lyrics.

"We patiently wait your return.

Cast into Ghana you'll burn.

Cleanse from the fires inside.

Rejecting your pitiful life.

You'll crawl on your hands and your knees.

You'll feast on the fear you receive.

And here in the alter you'll give your life for a reason to live."

Apparently, at this point, I was singing out loud because I looked over to see Kim singing with me I instantly shut my mouth while pulling my earbuds out and shoving them in my pockets. I stared at her. She takes quick looks at me smiling.

"You like singing... you didn't tell me that."

"I don't normally sing when people are around."

"It's okay I don't either but you have a great voice."

"Thanks."

"So your room is pretty bare so why don't we go shopping to spice up your room. We'll need paint, too," she said this obviously to change the subject out of my embarrassment.

"Cool."

"But first you're going to meet Duncan, my boy-best friend," she said correcting herself.

" Oooo Dunkim I ship it."

" Wait your a Yognau(gh)t?"

"Yeah I uh watch you every week and have a 'Flux Buddies' jacket."

"I should've known by the Area 11 song."

"Yah..."

"So let's go to m- home."
