By the fourth night the death count was so high that some hunters were pulled off the mission and put into different tasks, the vampires were short on numbers thus desperate for new faces and a leader.
It was a worker at the bar who found Naj's body while taking out the trash, the man was one of Clay's acquaintances and called him as soon as he found it. The huntsman teleported right next to the back door of the bar, the smell of blood led him right to the crime scene.
Naj was indeed dead, her face was largely obscured by the long light blue hair that had fallen cross it but he managed to recognize her even after her flesh was burnt by the sun. Before reporting the body Clay took the liberty to look around, because he knew once the elders swipe the place there will be no other story to the incident but the one they tell.
From his long experience with dead people, he guessed she had been deceased at least six to twelve hours. A blood spatter and drip pattern indicated she had been killed there.
Next to her laid four stakes stained with blood, Clay knelt over them; this kind of execution was only known to the huntsmen and he was the only one in town. Gloves on Clay picked one up and studied it closely; it is the exact same one they use. There was a number engrave on the top edge just like every weapon, it represents the year it was made and given to a certain hunter.
"Zero-six, two thousand and six." The huntsman sighed, that year was quit unique.
The year that Marah was officially a hunter.
Clay flinched at the sound of his phone ringing; Shane's name was displayed in the screen with dozens of missed messages. He didn't answer and checked the messages instead.
-Why is there a demon in our house?
-Why wasn't I informed?
-I thought we discussed everything together!
-Your decision was reckless.
-I will not associate with someone who shot me!
Clay sighed; he hoped that the rest of the messages won't be on the same subject.
-Are you busy? Please call me when you're free.
-Someone is here to see you.
-She's asking for you and she wouldn't give us any information on her.
-Should we let her in?
-She's annoying please come.
Putting the phone back in his pocket, Clay disappeared from the ally with a shimmer of blue light and appeared in his living room where all three hunters were seated around a woman in black.
They all got up at his arrival.
"Finally!" Kimberly rolled her eyes "what took so long?"
"I apologize for keeping you waiting." Clay said as his eyes landed on the surprise guest who gave a small nod in response.
The woman was attractive, no smile, no makeup, all business. Her hair hooked behind her ears, her eyes had distance in them like someone who has seen too much too soon.
"Neh can I go now?" Timothy yawned, Kim punched him in the side but that only made him complain more. "Ow! Whaaaat??"
Clay cleared his throat "I assume you haven't been fairly introduced .This is Nova, an elder." He initiated then turned to face her "to what do I owe the pleasure?"
Crossing her arms Nova averted her gaze "I believe that you have the demon staying with you, I'm here for an interrogation." she mentioned.
Sitting on the couch they all looked at each other. "But we already did that-" Kimberly started but got cut off when Clay held up a hand.
"Are you questioning my report?" he said quite offended.
"There were some...blanks in your report that we would like to fill in." she answered.
Turning to her Clay shook his head slightly before turning the other way. "Too bad there's a much pressing matter"
"which is?"
"I found Naj's body," He said looking at her from the corner of his eyes "In the back of a bar down town."
"Naj? Isn't that the leader of the vamps?" Kim whispered to her brother.
Shane nodded stepping into the conversation "Yeah, someone is trying to start a war."
"I believe that someone is Marah." Clay admitted as he stood up from the couch. Following him, Nova stood up too.
"That is a serious problem," She said after a moment of thinking "I will inform the others immediately."
Clay nodded "Please do." He watched closely as Nova walked past the door and closed it behind her.
"Where's Blake?" Clay asked immediately.
"He's hiding in my room." Timothy said "He freaked out when he saw her, I can see why."
"We should give him to them." Shane declared.
Clay sighed "No, we need him. Go get him." He ordered going to the hall.
With quick steps Kimberly followed behind "What are we going to do?"
"What we always do," he said unlocking the armory "Hunt."
Meanwhile, Marah was standing by the mirror gazing at the reflection rapturously; the power that pulsed through her veins, she missed that feeling.
However time was running short and her body was no longer obeying her, her brother was fighting and she had to restore her control over him.
"My lady," A calm voice called from behind the door before it opened slowly, a startling shade of amber that almost looked like living solar Light as she entered.
Marah turned away from the mirror, "Yes Ory?" her attention on the tall and thin girl with the tan skin that labeled her a human instantly.
"The huntsman is moving," Ory told "As expected."
"Good." Marah said her gaze back in the mirror again, smiling. "Oh brother, how I wish you were by my side."
Behind her, Ory stepped closer "Soon, my lady."
Marah sighed "Yes, soon."
