july 1, 1959

daniel and vallory were walking around town and decided to stop by the diner for lunch. blue point diner  was the name. they
walked in the door, with a little bell ringing to signal the workers. a waitress led them to a booth by the window and gave them their menus.

"hey dally, should i get the ham grilled cheese, or," vallory scanned the menu, "babe's special mac-n-cheese?"

"definitely the mac-n-cheese. i'm gonna get the steak meal. sounds really good." daniel commented. a few moments later, the waitress came by and asked for their orders.

"i'll have the steak meal and she will have the-" daniel began.

"how would you like your meat?" the waitress interjected.

"medium-rare, please. um, my sister will have babe's mac-n-cheese. thank you, miss." daniel nodded to the waitress as she walked away. as daniel and vallory were conversing, two teenagers came up to their table. one with blonde, almost white, hair and the other with brown hair and a messed up eye.

"did you two just move here? haven't seen ya faces around town yet, have we eyeball?" the blonde one asked.

"no, no not at all, ace." the brown haired one, or "eyeball" replied.

"well, we'll just have to introduce ourselves. i'm ace, and my friend over here is eyeball. y'know, cause of his fucked up eye?" ace announced. eyeball laughed at ace's joke and looked at vallory.

"my, you are a very pretty lady. what's your name?"

"um, vallory. this is my brother daniel." she mumbled.

"pretty name, pretty face. goes together pretty well. was you the girl that was talking with the retarded little boys? chris and his friends?" ace wondered.

"well, yeah i guess. in my opinion, i wouldn't say they were retarded." vallory laughed. daniel eyes the two teens, gaining suspicion on them.

"would you boys mind finding your own seats? my little sister and i were having our own conversation." daniel points out.

"little sister? she doesn't look too small to me, ace." eyeball winked.

"excuse me?" vallory said loudly. eyeball and ace laughed at eyeball's comment, when suddenly vallory stood up and socked eyeball in the jaw. ace stood there with a shocked, yet impressed look on his face. daniel stared at vallory and laughed at this beautiful injury. eyeball was holding his jaw, and grabbed ace by the arm to force-drag them both out of the diner.

"woah." daniel mouthed. after the disturbance, their food came and they both inhaled it as fast as they could so they could get the hell out of there.

a few hours later, daniel and vallory went home. as soon as they stepped inside they were sucked inside a hole of hell. alyssa began screaming at both of them for leaving so long, even though it had only been about four or five hours out in the new town.

"ma, we was just exploring the new town. if you needed us you coulda just asked around, or walked down a few roads! it really isn't that hard." daniel suggested.

"mother you're just too much of a lazy hag to look for your kids. i bet you was just sitting here calling up your boyfriends to see which one of 'em would fuck ya first tonight!" vallory yelled at her mom. when she was done ranting, alyssa planted a hard fist into her nose. then, into her stomach. and lastly, kicked her in the shin.

"don't ever speak to me like that again, you dirty bitch! next time, you're gonna end up with a cigarette burn on ya lips to keep 'em shut!" alyssa threatened. vallory couldn't handle all the yelling, and the punching. she gave daniel a quick kiss on the cheek and ran out the front door. she ran down to gordie's house, the house with a big "L" on by the front door.

when she approached the door, she moved around her hair to hide the marks on her face, and pretended to itch her nose to hide the blood and bruises. then, she knocked.

"vallory? hi, how are yo-" gordie started, but got stopped by vallory hugging him and sobbing.

"c-can i come in?" she said in between wheezes.

"of course, let's go." gordie said confortingly. he led her up the stairs and into his bedroom. he closed the door so she could cry in private. once they sat down, gordie noticed the damaged features on her face. his eyes widened and he tried to speak, but couldn't find the right words.

"is it that bad?" vallory asks groggily.

"n-no, it just looks very.. painful." gordie nodded. he walks out the room and downstairs to the kitchen to get her some ice.

"who's here, son?" gordie's dad asked with no emotion.

"my friend vallory, she fell on her way here so i'm just getting her some ice." gordie lied.

"a girl?"

"yes, a female. now if you'll excuse me, she's in great pain." gordie said sassily as he headed up the stairs. he walked back into his bedroom and closed the door. he handed vallory the ice with a reassuring smile.

"thank you, gordie," vallory said, placing the ice on her nose, "oh shit, this hurts! oh fuck! oh my god, oww." vallory started to tear up again, and moved the ice into a better, less painful spot.

"so, if you don't mind me asking, what happened?"

"well, my mother was screaming at us for not coming home soon enough. my brother said she could've just walked around and looked for us. i mean, it's a very small town it wouldn't have been that hard. when he was finished talking, i called her lazy hag who was probably calling up her boyfriends to see which one would 'be fucking her first'". vallory told with finger quotes.

"wow, i'm sorry."

"no problem. this is a weird question but, do you know anywhere i can stay for the night?"

"um," gordie thought, "yeah! yeah, i do. i'll go with you to go get some stuff if you need it."

"yeah, thanks." vallory smiled.
