The Beginning of an End

Levi Castellanos woke up to a blaring alarm ringing throughout his home. He stared out the window for minute looking over the forest and the dark trees that stood upon his house until he had enough energy to drag himself out of his bed and comprehend the situation. The Castellanos house was engulfed in flames. Levi could faintly hear the cry of his baby sister, Ivy in her crib down the hall. Levi went to open the door although when he touched the handle he quickly pulled away because of the blistering heat. Levi grabbed a t-shirt that was laying on his floor from earlier in the week to cover the handle and open the door. A great cloud of smoke rushed into his bedroom. Levi could barely see through all the haze that was moving throughout his home, although he was resourceful and followed the whimpers of Ivy. When he arrived at her bright pink crib she paused her sobbing as Levi picked her up and held her close to his chest. Levi put the t-shirt over Ivy's face so she would not inhale any smoke. He then bolted down the grand staircase and around the corner to the arrival of his parent's bedroom. To his surprise, they were still in bed. He shook them awake and they quickly sat up and instructed him to get outside and that will be right behind him. Levi listened and sprinted down the hall and out the front door. He caught a glimpse of a firetruck pulling into the driveway before looking back at his home. Their 3 story mansion was now swallowed by flames and breaching at many parts. Ivy and Levi's eyes were fixed on the door waiting for their parents to run outside. Minutes felt like hours until suddenly they saw a glimpse of movement hastly coming through the smoke. It was their parents Levi started walking towards them slowing, still holding Ivy in his left arm. Their parents quickly shouted out "We love you, don't forget us" and as if it was planned cordinatly the whole house all of a sudden collapsed. Levi and Ivy urgently closed their eyes and when they opened, they gazed upon the ruins of their home which was more or less nothingness, with their parents no where in sight. Levi held Ivy close and crumbled to the ground while tears streamed down his face. The last sight Levi Castellanos saw on that tragic night was a great pile of smoke and ashes endarkening the forest that sat around him.
