Rumors.
That's not a fun word.
No one likes rumors. Even if people start them, they don't expect it to come back to them.
Be a bitch, life will find a way to put you back into your place.
Or... maybe it was a rumor. Maybe what everyone thought had nothing to do with the real story.
See the thing about rumors is, no one ever asks the victim in person.
They always believe what others say. Never think twice about it.
A rumor is basically a huge game of telephone.
Remember when you used to play that game with your friends when you were younger?
Where you said something into the person next to you's ear and they go around in a huge circle to the person sitting on the other side of you. Then that person says what they heard and it's almost always completely different from what you said. You always would think or say "How could you mess it up I told it to you so clearly!"
There's a loose hook in the chain.
Someone changes the whole story.
But no one ever knows who. They don't fess up to it. They never do.
