Growling at every hit made, my double swords swing wildly. Every blow taken in silence. I am training like I have for the past 13 years, I am now 21 years old. I guess time really flies when you have been drilled with combat terms and skills since you were eight. I have been training like this because, when I was born a prophecy was foretold that I would go on a journey to take down the 'evil to come'. That was before my brother Magnus was born. The prophecy changed and said that, I, Edward, and my younger brother Magnus would find the four others that would help take down the 'The great evil'. Now it is called the Empire, it had at one point been great and prosperous until, Crystallin corrupted it. After the fall of Montolianna, the kingdoms bowed down and did as she commanded. Now they are all shells of what they had formerly been. A few of them, like mine, had resisted the change.
The six that are to take down the empire are the Warrior, Stealth, Magician or Mage, Healer, and the Inventers. I am the Warrior and Magnus is the Stealth. There are two inventers, I don't think that they will be hard to find. The Healer and the Mage are a different story though. They are magic users, Crystallin has been hunting them down for years. A Healer is blessed with the power to take other people's pain and heal it within themselves which gives them a fast regenerative ability. They also have instinct which allows them to understand how to heal them if they do not have the power to. For instance, if you are poisoned, they can stop the poison and create an antidote. The Magicians have amulets they create a blood bond with, that gives them almost unlimited power, but gives their amulet a conscience. All of the six are supposed to have extraordinary abilities.
Knocking me out of my daze, Trenton hit me with the hilt of his sword. He chuckles at the expression I made. "Aye, Lady Edward, may I engage thy assiduity?"
Angry at the rude awakening, I slide my sword in the crest of his, and push my strength into it. This staggers his balance and I lace my swords together forming an X and knock him flat. Taking this chance to disarm him I say, "Now do I look like a lady?" Sweat beads drip from my forehead. He calls me "Lady" because of my long wavy black hair. It isn't as long as a girls but if flows past my shoulders. Men typically did not let it grow that far and trim it back.
I held my hand out for him to take, but he slapped it away. "Where did you get that word anyway, my brother?"
Although his reactions said angry, his face showed that he was impressed. He stands up and claps my shoulder. Chuckling to himself before he speaks, he says, "Edward when you are not talking someone's ears off, you are daydreaming. Where is it your mind is off to now?"
"I was honestly thinking about the journey. The Quest." I replied.
His face then turns serious and all the light fades from his brown eyes. He crosses his arms and asks, "How many days is it until you leave? I have never heard of an actual date so how do you know?"
"I want to say a week, but Magnus says that we should leave as soon as we can. He may be right but I am not too keen on leaving just yet." I answered.
A telltale smile plays on the corner of his lips as he speaks. "Magnus is known as the wise one. Silent most of the time, and he always has advice to give. Believe there is a reason that Magnus wishes to leave just the same as you wish to stay." He slowly shake his head and the gleam in his eye comes back, before he adds, "You two are as different as night and day."
I smile and nod my head in agreement. "Now who sounds like the wise one?" Trenton Griffon is 22, just a year older than I. He has been my best friend and sparring partner ever since we were old enough to remember. Unlike me, he has red hair and it is cut just above the base of his neck. He also has brown eyes that almost always holds a gleam in them. He walks over to where he dropped his sword and retrieves it.
