HONU
(Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle)She sleeps
on a beach, the north shore of Oahu,
sun warms her shell; sand, salt, sea spray, sound
of rocking waves, wind sweeps
giant palms above.Later, in the ocean, she glistens,
she glides, dives,
stores oxygen for hours.Plastic bags, drinking straws,
tattered fish net, radiation ions
choke and numb her.Still, for now, she continues
to dive
unencumbered.
