Kian's pov
I sketch her furiously, the white page becoming dirty with the charcoal pencil marks of her beauty.
She hasn't moved in a while, only the up and down of her chest as she breaths. She is focusing as much as me, but I can't stop thinking about her as my hand scrawls.
"Red, can you lift your chin slightly for me?" I ask
She does as asked and then stays that way while I finish with the pencil.
I look at my drawing and then I look at her, it's good for an outline. I grab a thicker charcoal, I go for the Vine piece at my side.
I start etching the details onto the paper, looking up at her as much as possible.
I look at the clock and then back at my paper.
"Red, is there anyway you would be willing to stay after school with me so I can finish up?" I ask her
She breaths deeper this time but holds her pose.
"How much longer you need, I have a da-" she pauses "I have a thing at 6 tonight" she finishes.
"I will have you out of her at 3:30." I tell her
"Alright then." She says going back to focusing on the wall.
I continue shading, switching between the charcoal pencil and the vine charcoal.
I am shading the curl of her loose hair when the bell rings. Everyone gets up and leaves the classroom, but Red doesn't move a muscle.
"Are you two staying here?" Mrs. Clara asks
"Yeah, just until 3:30 so I can really catch Red's beauty" I tell her
"Kian, this is probably your best charcoal work ever" mrs. Clara breaths looking at it.
"Thanks. What Can I say, a pretty face inspires me." I say
Red rolls her eyes but assumes her position again.
"Alright, lock up when you are done" Mrs. Clara says before leaving us alone.
I get back to work on shading Red's cheekbones.
I use the pencil for her freckled cheeks, and then I pull out the block charcoal for the dark edges and lines of her delicate face.
I finish with her jawline and the last little detail of her eyes right at 4 o'clock.
"I'm all done" I tell her.
She stretched out before she stand up and slides her cardigan back on.
I watch her tuck a hair behind her ear as she rounds the table to stand next to me.
She stands over my shoulder and looks down at my work. A gasp comes from her lips.
I look at her over my shoulder, her eyes are glowing.
"So?" I ask "how did I do?" I finish
A smile forms on her lips and she never takes her eyes off the paper.
"Stick figure my ass" she laughs "it's beautiful" she whispers
She is so close to me that I can smell her coconut vanilla perfume.
One of her red hairs tickles my ear as she leans down slightly to get a better look.
"Red" I say turning to face her.
She pries her eyes off the paper to look at me.
She stands up straight again but she doesn't back away from me.
"What?" She finally asks
"It's my turn" I grin
She giggles and looks down at her phone in her hand.
"Shit!" She says "it's almost 4:30" she finishes as she turns to grab her bag.
"Why the hurry?" I ask her
She looks at me with a slightly annoyed look.
"I promised Braxton that I would go on a date with him if he left me alone." She tells me
I chuckle but then I grit my teeth. He already has a date with red?! I'm behind in this race for her heart and her hand in marriage.
She notes my discomfort.
"It's no big deal, I'm only going with him because he promised me a free tattoo. Between us, he's a little relentless and annoying" she says
I grin at that.
"Yeah, I'm much better company. You should reschedule your 'date' with him and come out with me instead." I offer
She smirks.
"And do what?" She asks
"Whatever the princess desires" I tell her
She groans at the nickname.
"I'm no princess" she says
"No, you're right, you are a Queen" I tell her
"In What world?!" She giggles with shock.
"My world... the north side... it could be our world, you could be my north side Queen" I tell her
She smiled down at me
"Well here is my number if, and when, Braxton disappoints tonight" I tell slipping a paper to her.
She takes it.
"One month isn't enough time. We won't even be out of high school" she says sitting on the table next to me
I rest a hand on her knee as if to comfort her... one month isn't a lot of time, which is why I have to work fast and get her to like me at least.
"Yeah i know, love takes time and I don't want you to make the wrong choice because you are under pressure from your asshole brother." I say
I want you to choose me, I can't loose my territory and all my father worked for.
I don't say that out loud, she wouldn't like that at all.
"I just want to be wanted." She says staring off at nothing again.
I take her hand in mine, crossing her fingers with mine.
She doesn't move, going to that far away place she's been at all day.
I know what she means, it's lonely at the top. Even when I'm with a girl in my bed, I'm not emotionally there. I want someone to want me for me, to love me despite what I do.
She shakes her self out of her state of limbo and slips her hand out of mine.
"I better go" she says hopping off the table.
"I know what you mean" I say to her back.
She almost turns around but she doesn't
"See you tomorrow, Kian" She says before she walks out the door.
As it closes behind her I feel more lonely than I ever have before.
When I held her hand in mine I remembered what it was like to actually FEEL something.
That Red, she's something else, she understands me. She gets how lonely it is when you are the dangerous person who runs a gang.
For a second I'm sad for her, sad that she has been so alone for so long. Then I remember that if she doesn't marry me instead of Braxton I will lose everything.
She holds the power, and yet, it's as if she is being held captive by the same fears I am.
