"Hey Sera!" Layla (A.K.A Lux) shouted to her best friend. "I've missed you over the summer!" she said while going for a hug. Sera, who doesn't like a lot of social contact, flinched but still hugged back. "Sorry," Lux said pulling back. "How are you?"
Sera responded in her quiet voice, "I missed you too. I'm fine, I guess." She pulled down her shirt sleeves to try to cover the scratches on her arms. Lux noticed this and became worried.
"Are you sure?"
"Uh..." she said quietly, putting her hands behind her back. "I... fell."
"Uh huh," Layla responded who was still concerned. "If you don't want to tell me, that's fine. Just, please don't lie to me."
"Okay," Sera said slowly. "Whats your first class?"
"P.E. What do you have?"
"Math. I think we have the same schedule besides those two classes." Lux nodded in agreement. Then, suddenly, someone kicked Sera to the floor, making her drop everything.
"HEY!" Yelled Layla. "Get back here, you jerk! You will pay for that!" She ran after the boy who kicked Sera. Once she was out of sight, Sera picking up her things. As another group was walking past a girl kicked her her binder and started laughing with her friends. She heard yelling in the next hallway as a teacher was walking over there.
Sera picked up the rest of her stuff and got up to go get her binder. As she was walking over a group of boys started playing soccer with it. Then she saw Lux glaring at the boys and said, "I already have a week's worth of detention. I don't care if I have to fight you, but I think you will."
One of the boys who didn't hear her kicked it to a boy with brown, curly hair. He picked up it up and handed it back to Sera. "Really?" Lux asked looking at the boy who kicked it. She turned to Sera and asked if she was okay. She nodded yes and looked at the curly-haired boy. "Good," Layla turned around and thanked the boy.
He saluted as if saying, "No problem" and walked away. Layla giggled and faced her friend again. "Oh, I forgot to tell you! I don't know if it will either offend you or make you happy. But I learning sign language!"
"Really? That's great."
"Yeah," she responded, smiling. Sera smiled back as the bell rang. "Dang it," Lux complained. "See ya after class. Science next, right?"
"Yeah."
"Cool. Bye Sera," and she walked off to P.E.
"Bye." Sera turned around and went to math class.
As the bell rang for class to start, the teacher went up to the board and started writing things down. One of the kids in the back of the class threw a paper ball at the teacher. She turned around and asked "Who threw that?" Most of the class pointed at Sera. "Seraphine, is it?"
A girl with blonde hair shouted out, "Hey! They're all lying. I saw him throw it." She pointed to the kid in the back. "And he got everyone to blame it on her."
"Brian," the teacher asked. "Is this true?"
"No ma'am," the boy named Brian responded. "I would never."
Then a boy with blonde hair and glasses stood up and said, "Hey wait, I saw it too! Everyone is just bulling her and trying to get her in trouble."
"Alright," the teacher said, upset. "I'll let everyone off for now. No more."
