Layla walked into the science classroom and sat down next to Sera. "Hey! How was math? Anything happen?"

"I guess I made some new friends," she looked down, blushing. "And maybe crushes."

"Ooh!" she said excitedly. "Do tell!"

"They stood up for me. But uh..." She hesitated.

"But what?"

"I discovered something." Layla looked at her confused. "They were... a boy and a girl."

"Ooh! So you have two crushes!"

"Yeah..." Sera continued slowly. "But it's kinda against my orphanage. I should only like boys."

"Why? That's so stupid!" Lux said upset. "I hate people like  that. Some people don't like it when I date a girl, or even someone who doesn't have a gender! Are all humans like this?"

"Just the homophobic ones." Then Sera got an idea. "You think you could, um... Well your parents...?"

"What?"

"Um, you don't have any siblings, right?"

"Nope! Just me."

"So, then maybe..." she paused. "It wouldn't be a full house if they adopted me?"

"That would be awesome!" she said, very excited."I don't think they would mind. They already love you! I will talk to them after school."

Sera smiled and the boy and girl from before got their attention. "Seraphine! We've got two seats here for you and your friend!"

"Awesome! What are your names?" she said dragging Sera over. They boy said his name was Jason and the girl is Annabeth. "Hi Jason and Annabeth! I'm Layla, or Lux. Either is fine" They smiled and nodded.

"Does everyone have a seat?" the teacher asked.

"Yep!" Lux said turning to Sera. "Are these your crushes?"

Sera blushed and looked down. "Shut up!"

"I knew it!" she giggled while the teacher was talking.

"Alright, so first- Who's giggling?" Lux bit her lip as the teacher searched the class. She turned back to the board and Lux sighed. The boy with the curly, brown hair looked at her and raised an eyebrow. "What?" she mouthed.

She heard a voice in her head: "Were you giggling?"

"Whoa." she thought back and looked at the boy. "And yes. Why?"

"Why were you?" he asked

"Because my friend said something and I laughed about it."

"What'd she say?"

"I don't think she would like me telling you. Also why do you want to know?"

"Next question. Why were you giggling in the hallway when I saluted?"

"Because I thought it was funny and cute."

"Cute?" he asked

Lux blushed and thought back, "Cute as in silly."

"Uh huh."

"Why do you care so much anyways?" He shrugged and they turned back to the front of the class.

"And that's your assignment. I hope you were paying attention because I'm not repeating myself." the teacher said.

"Crap! Sera! I dozed off. What are we doing?" Sera didn't look up from her paper. She signed "Sera" in front of her face.

"What?" she said looking up.

"What was the assignment?"

"I'll help you after school. Can you visit?"

"Of course. Is it hard?"

"Not really."

Jason butted in and said, "I don't understand either."

"Alright," Sera sighed. "I can help you too."

Lux laughed and said, "Seems like we are all clueless."

"Not all of us," Sera said, writing on her paper. "I hope you know this is due tomorrow."

"Thanks Sera! You are the best. Jason, you need a ride?"

Annabeth raised her hand and said, "Got room for one more?"

"Of course!" Layla smiled.

"Great. We'll see you after school, then."

"Sweet! Wanna eat with us at lunch?" she looked at Sera. "If that's okay." Sera nodded and and the other two agreed as the bell rang.

"We have history next," Annabeth said.

"So do we!" she said as Sera walked closer to her. "It's fine. I'm right here." She nodded, feeling saver. "Let's go!"
