Samara couldn’t believe that their living arrangement was giving her trouble again. Kyle had sublet his apartment to both Joshua and her. The apartment had been a gift from Kyle’s Uncle to Kyle on his 21st Birthday. Joshua one of Kyle’s best friends was accepted to university in Saul and needed a place to stay and Kyle agreed to let it to him. When Samara need a place to stay it was both Kyle and Joshua’s idea that she too could and should stay at the apartment. Many of Joshua and Samara’s friends had stayed here from time to time but come and gone but these two had, without intention, become the unofficial guardian’s of the apartment. But of late, due to legal issues, the building manager was trying to pressurize Kyle into entering a more permanent arrangement with Samara and Joshua.
Samara wished that Josh would just move in with Lillian. After all the couple seemed to be going steady. It surprised Samara that there was anyone who would want to be Josh’s girlfriend. Extremely immature and totally bigheaded Josh was not the type anyone would think able to not just get but also keep a girlfriend for more than a year. This made the already unconventional living arrangement further awkward. Josh couldn’t care less about what others thought but Samara was more conscious of the fact because a lot of their collegues, friends and family constantly pointed out how unusual the situation was. After all living with a boy- no less one who was almost engaged- was atypical in the Union.
The position could also be made less awkward if Sam just moved in with Anouk and Lil moved in here. But then Josh – being Josh- was still uncertain about what he wanted to do and they both couldn’t leave the apartment without letting Kyle down.
