I lay quietly
Listening, in the dark
Clearly hearing, the beating of my heart
Could I hear that spider? Dangling above my head
Or the quickening scurry of a mouse beneath my bed
The curtain moves, I draw breath quick
Am I alone? Or is it just a mind trick
Something hovers above my feet,
Something brushes past my cheek
I jump, and squirm and kick my feet,
And dive my head beneath the sheet
Then I hear the buzzing sound,
It just a fly but its bloody loud
Lying in my sheet cocoon
Protected from the surrounding room
I drift off to slumber deep,
Peaceful now not another peep
