Friendship?

Whether we realize it or not every step we take, every word we utter, every breath our lungs, strive for, and every thought we think is the opening of a door. The moment we are conceived a path is created but it doesn't only have one lane for us to walk upon. There are the corrupt decisions and the moral ones. Every goal, wish or hurdle has an end we are yet to choose.

Jordan curled his hands into a fist, white knuckles showing, his green eyes seemed to darken, and chest moved noticeably up and down with every puff. His knees felt weak but he wouldn't show it. Kyle stood in front of him, mocking blue eyes staring at Jordan's every move, the slightest tilt of his head resembled as if he hadn't cared for the words he had just spat. The argument was already heated enough before he mentioned his companions mother. The mother who was filled with sorrow as she let the tightrope hoist her from the ground. Wrapped around her neck it slowly took her life as her child, still, an infant remained in the next room over.

As Jordan's heavy footsteps were heard waking away, Kyle softened. His tense muscles relaxed, eyes dropped their pride, and legs gave away under him as he fell to the ground. Tears brimmed his eyes when he recalled the quarrel. He had hurt Jordan and wasn't sure if he could ever repair this friendship. He knew how his friend would isolate himself from the world. Stay in his room distracted by the books that filled it. Slowly his health would worsen, just as before he was there. Before Kyle had befriended him three years ago.

Guilt ate away at Kyle, he wanted to apologise but he was unsure. If he approached Jordan wouldn't he just bring back the memories, one of Jordan's mother and his betrayal? He didn't want to see himself so why would Jordan. It was late around 2 am but Kyle remained awake, how could he sleep! His throat hurt from dryness, stomach rumbled, and eyes were red and puffy from tiredness and crying. He got up for a glass of water but before he reached the door of his bedroom three doors appeared. Kyle rubbed his eyes thinking it was an illusion but opened them only to find the doors were carved into the wall.

The first door was glossed wooden and looked old. The boat-shaped door had rusted blue paint. A beautiful spiral pattern was on it. Stuck on it was an A4 piece of paper that read "sometimes you have to take a step back to move forward".The next door was the most attractive almost out of this world with brown wooden planks. It seemed to have an unnatural glow to it. Just like before a paper was stuck to it this time reading "it's easier to just leave, to be where nothing can go wrong". The last door was one Kyle see everyday white, modern, with sticker and posters of his favourite band and skulls or anything the boys - Jordan and Kyle - got their hands on coating it. It looked the worse but meant the most to Kyle. as he closed his eyes he saw Jordan smiling brightly and himself laughing out loud with a worry in the world entering through the very door stationed in front of him. This door read "do something that will inch you closer to a better tomorrow".

Kyle thought for a while sitting on the floor staring into the darkness of his cold room. The first door can take him back in time, the second will take him to a new start and the third will leave me here. If he could just repeat the same mistake as before and he would have never known of the pain h caused Jordan. He would be running away from his problems if he went to a new land, a new start and how could he leave everyone dear to him, his family and friends, behind. He wouldn't have to face any of it, he could forget but everyone else would be devastated. The last door left him there. There, where he caused pain, where he hurt the person closest to him. he wanted to, was tempted to, run but how could he. He didn't deserve it. He had to make it up to Jordan.

Getting up Kyle noticed it was 3 am but that didn't bother him, he grabbed the handle out of his room. When he did the other doors disappeared and the notes fell to the ground. The door burst open and he ran. When he reached Jordan's house he climbed to his room window which was never locked. His friend, awake, suddenly became sulky seeing the person who had once put a smile on his face. Panting Kyle dropped to his knees as he began. "I know that this won't be enough and you won't forgive me but I have to say this. After that, you can decide whatever. Look I am sorry, I was just angry and I don't know what got into me. I-I shouldn't have said that and no more excuses-". Tears covered his cheeks. "I know that you don't need me and that you can't trust me but I do. I trust you and I need you, call me selfish but please give me a chance to make it right, please." Kyle begged as Jordan slowly got up from his bed. Each step was agonising. He stood in front of Kyle for a moment before ... He dropped down on his knees and hugged his friend. " All I wanted was an apology."
