Chapter One
On the Road
Axel (Prison Inmate)
"For reals, I don't think anybody is coming back for us. We all ready have been in here for two hundred and ninety four days. I don't think I can take this much longer." Axel told the other inmates that were locked up there with him.
"You're gonna take it because you have to take it. But if you want, I can put you out of your misery?" Tomas waved his gun at the hillbilly's head. He was tired of hearing him moan and groan.
"Tomas, knock it off. He's just getting cabin fever like the rest of us. We have to find a way to get of here. Lord only knows what's going on out there." Big Tiny warned him. He always had to warn him. Tomas was just a big bully. And one thing Big Tiny hated was a big bully.
"You shut up. I say what the hell I want, got that?" Tomas scowled.
But Oscar, the quiet one, was the one everyone that everyone was afraid of. He was quiet but carried a big stick, metaphorically.
"That's enough Tomas. Leave him alone." Oscar said quietly.
All the men turned around and looked at Oscar. He just shook his head and closed his eyes. Ten months locked up with these guys has driven him to the edge. Shit, he wanted to be locked up in solitary.
"I'm tired of being locked up in here, doing the same thing everyday. Eating the same thing everyday. Nothing new ever happens."
Suddenly, they could hear gunshots from far away, somewhere outside. They all looked at each other and said, "Well, that's new."

The car was stuffy. Carl was tired and his butt was hurting. He wanted to get out and walk around. He looked at Anna sitting next to him, Anna who lost everyone in her family. She was strong and she fit into his family just like a glove. But he didn't think of her like a sister. Good friend, good close friend is what he would call her. His parents, well, his parents were still a mystery to him. He didn't know if they were together or not. Sometimes he could see the love but sometimes, it looked like they didn't even know each other.
The car started slowing down, Carl looked outside and all he could see was trees. That's all he ever saw. He looked at his Dad and Rick nodded at him which meant he was going to be allowed to get out of the car. He took out his gun, a small hand gun with a homemade silencer, and waited for his Dad's word. He had been given a gun about four months ago when a Walker almost got him and Anna in the car while they were in a building scavenging. Rick thought he was old enough, he was thirteen, to be able to use the gun.
"Okay Carl." Was all the words Rick needed to use. Obediently, Carl stepped out of the car and listened to his Dad when he told him to stand guard in front of the convoy.
Daryl, who was in the front car, stopped and got out. Chloe was asleep and he didn't feel the need to wake her up. He pulled out a map. Rick, Dale and Hershel walked up and they all looked at the map together.
"We've been in this area, this area and this area." Daryl pointed to different places on the map. "We could go here, but on the parallel road is where we saw that last herd. The only area we haven't came close to yet is down this road. What do you all think?" Daryl had been taking more of a lead to let Rick focus on his family. He didn't know if it was working but he was trying to help.
"Do we really have a choice?" Hershel asked.
"No, not really. Another thing, could we stay parked here a little while. I'd like to see if there is any game nearby?" Daryl had his bow ready.
