Chapter Six
Captured
Merle
Merle turned around in the car and looked at the package he was taking back to the Governor. This ought to show him where his loyalties lie. Hell, he didn't want to be taken out into the woods and left for dead. Or shot in the head. He knew what he had to do. Merle was no dummy.
"Hey chocolate sweetness, I don't know what you did to the Governor to get him so upset with you but you ought not to piss him off so much." Then he looked to Glenn and Maggie, "Sorry China boy. you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Don't take this personal."
"Don't take it personal? How did you and Daryl even become brothers? He is on such a different level than you. How do you think he'd feel about this?" Merle made Glenn sick. It seemed like he did it on purpose just to prove what an ass he is.
"Merle please. I don't know you that well but I know Daryl, so if you are brothers you--" Maggie was interrupted.
"A guy in their group is your brother?" Martinez asked.
"I don't know where my brother is." Damn big mouth woman, Merle thought, she needs to shut the fuck up.
The Mexican guy turned around and asked, "Is his brother with your group?"
Glenn, Maggie and Michonne all stayed quiet, not to help Merle but to try to protect Daryl from this group's wrath.
"Answer me!!" He yelled at the trio.
The prison gang remained quiet, which pleased Merle.
"I told you I don't know where my brother is, I haven't seen him in almost a year." Merle was playing on Martinez's ignorance.
Martinez gave Merle a 'fuck you' looked and turned back toward the road.
The rest of the ride was silent.
As they drove, Merle tried to find a way to talk his way out of a situation he knew was inevitably coming. The Governor would find out that Merle had a brother and that he was in the group that was helping Michonne. He needed to spin the truth to get him out of some hot water.
Finally they pulled up to the doors of the city. They were huge and metal and it took a couple of guys to open them up. They looked inside the car and Martinez did the talking, "I'm back from cleaning up this guy's mess. Where's the Governor?"
"He's in his apartment. He left word for you Martinez to come and find him." The guy gave Merle a look and shook his head.
Merle asked, "What about me. Did he want to see me too?"
"Nope, he didn't mention you at all." The guy laughed and let them through.
Merle saw that most of the people were off the street by now, obeying the curfew set by the Governor. The only people on the street were his usual pack of thugs.
"I'll take these three back to the storage room. Let the Governor know that's where they'll be." Merle tried to sound important.
"Try not to lose them this time. Stay with them if you have to to accomplish that." Martinez stepped out of the car and walked towards the Governor's apartment.
"Come on you three, and don't give me no shit. You've caused me enough problems already." Merle shoved Glenn in front of him but held Maggie back and threw an arm around her.
"Well now, I've always wanted to do a farmer's daughter. Would you be interested in old Merle having a go at it?"
"Get away from her!" Glenn spat out at Merle. "Don't touch her!"
