The Train Ride

The peacekeepers lead us onto a very high tech train going to the Capitol. I was guessing that district 6 made the train, 6 has he industry of transportation. All of the other tributes from the other districts are on a train to the Capitol too. There are 12 districts so there are 24 tributes. 23 die, one survives. The peacekeepers lead Katniss and I to a rom that looks like a bar. There is a man sitting at a table drinking alcohol. I'm guessing that the man must me Haymitch Abernathy, the mentor. Every district has a tribute that has once won the Hunger Games, called a mentor. Most of the districts have at least 5 or 6 mentors. Notice that I said, most. There is one district that only has one mentor. District 12.

Haymitch is a horrible alcoholic, so he isn't very helpful at first. Katniss and I sit at the table he is at, and he pretends like we aren't there. "Hello?" Katniss says. "What!" Is his response. I say, " Since you are our mentor, can you tell us how to build a fire or how to get food?" He replies, " Okay. First of all, if you build a fire you are going to get killed. And second, the best chance you have of food is the cornucopia. And three, leave me alone!" The cornucopia is a big cornucopia in the middle of the Hunger Games arena. Except it's not filled with delicious fruit, it's filled with weapons and supplies such as swords, food, bow and arrow, spear, camouflage paint, nets, water canteens, and a lot of other stuff. You are probably thinking, ' jackpot dude! ' , well, no.

The cornucopia bloodbath is where about half of the tributes die. There are 24 platforms you stand on when the games are about to begin. In front of you is the cornucopia, and behind you is the forest. The arena is different every year, but this year it is forests, and meadows. When the games begin you can either go into the cornucopia, or you can go to the forest. I'm going to go in the forest, I don't want to die. When you run to the cornucopia, you risk your life. The careers get a lot of the weapons, and they kill anyone who comes near anything useful. That's why it's called the bloodbath. The careers are the tributes from districts 1,2, and 4. Some times they let some other tributes in.

Haymitch continues to drink his alcohol and ignore us while we ask questions. But, Katniss is tired of it. She staps a knife in between Haymitch's fingers. " Well, we've got a fights one this year." He says. "What do we have to do in the Hunger games?" Katniss asks. Haymitch stands up and says, " There is one rule of the Hunger Games." He says. " What is it?" I ask. "Stay alive." He says, and he walks away.

Later that day, we arrive in the Capitol Haymitch tells us to wave at the crowd, so we do. Well, I do. Katniss just stares in disgust. Haymitch tells her that I am doing the right thing, and that she is making a mistake. We have to impress the sponsors. The sponsors give you things like food and medicine if they like you. They are very hard to impress.
