PREFACE
I had never thought too much about my life, not until it was thrown into my shaking hands. But even if I had put thought into it, I would not have ever imagined it to end in this manner.
I stood there breathing erratically as I stared across the long room, nothing but darkness surrounded me. I knew that the images running through my mind weren't real, but he smiled pleasantly back at me.
Surely this wasn't the right way to die, in the place of abandonment and loss of courage. I wasn't protecting myself any longer, I was protecting the people that meant most to me. That ought to count for something, right?
I knew that if I wasn't forced to move to Norfolk, I wouldn't be facing my life's ending right now. But, as sore and tired as I was, I couldn't see myself regretting the idea of coming. I wasn't one that regretted her actions, that wasn't in my nature.
I wasn't going to grieve.
I was going to fight as he smiled in a friendly way to slaughter me.
