CH4PTER FOUR
The closet was scrunched. Although I felt comfortable next to Nick, I wondered if we would live. What happened? Why is this happening? World War III? Why would a battle take place here, in Phoenix, Arizona.
Turned out, Nick knew nothing about it either. He didn't know why, or who.
"Who do you think is still alive?" I asked him when he woke.
"I don't know," he answered, "But it's over now, no one can hurt us. We'll be alright."
I took his advice as, you're not gonna die, don't worry. But I didn't quite believe him. Was this all a dream? Still a daydream that I randomly came up with in Language? How long had this war been going on, we're we supposed to know?
Obviously no one did.
Nick grabbed my hand, our fingers now interlocked. I could feel all the sweat but it was warm. He was so warm. We silently came out of the closet and looked around.
Nothing. It was perfectly clean, no bodies, no ashes, no gore. I went and found the place Erica took her last breath. Not a thing sat in her place. No students in classrooms or teachers either. There wasn't even a desk or chair in any of the rooms. Nick glimpsed outside, and saw darkness. Night-time? Huh, I didn't think they put up EVERYTHING when the school closed.
But then again, I don't work here. If I did, I might have a hint what the hell was going on. I turned to nick and he pulle me into a tight hug, and I cried into his chest. I sobbed and my tears got his shirt all wet. Then he stroked my hair and we sat next to a locker and he smiled, beginning to doze off.
"Don't sleep, please." I asked, and he said okay, wrapping his arm around my waist.
Since we kissed, he had been treating me differently, but I didnt know why. It was a dare. Though I sorta wanted to do it...
Then I remembered something. When I looked out the window a bit ago, it was so dark, and there were stars everywhere. Even, like, on the....
Oh no. There were stars on the ground. Or more specifically, there was no ground.
"Nick?"
"Yeah, Tes?"
"We're in outer space."
He stood up wearing a confused look. He ran to the door and looked around.
He covered his mouth, "Oh my god. We're in outer space."
