Fake friends are like shadows.
They follow you in the sun
but leave you in the dark.

Adalynn's POV

I hear multiple gunshots getting closer to my room. Should we hide? There is nowhere to hide in this room, and I can barely move. Fine, I guess I'll start my goodbye speech!

It was nice living on this Earth for 18 years. I am very thankful to my parents for having me. Also, Ella, for not being a backstabbing bitch! You forgot someone!

Who? Ashton! My boyfriend. Oh. Well, that was all you. I'm not the one who was found harassing a motorcycle. Thanks for being the best boyfriend in the whole world. I'll miss you!

I cough up some blood, and I just know it was from being hit with a chair. That was so unnecessary.

And even though I'll never get to marry him or have kids, I had a pretty good life. I try to hold in my tears and sit quietly, waiting for death.

I see someone open the door, and they aim their gun at me. They flash their flashlight in my direction, and I squint my eyes.

"Adalynn?" I hear someone ask. That sounds a lot like Ashton.

"Ashton?" I mumble, not sure if I'm hallucinating.

He turns on the light switch, and I shut my eyes. I feel like throwing up but spit out more blood. His whole expression breaks, and he says, "Oh baby..."

He cuts through the zip ties, and I try to get up. I suddenly feel dizzy, and then I'm reminded my shoulder is dislocated.

"C-can you pop my shoulder back?" I ask, feeling weak.

He wordlessly nods and holds my shoulder. When he counts down to two, he pops it back in, and I grunt, "Fuck."

"We have to get out of here." He says, continuing to examine my injuries.

"I thought I would never see you again..." I whisper.

"I'm here. I'm sorry we took long." He says, pulling me closer. Get you a guy who still wants to hug you, even if you might be bleeding to death. I flinch, and he immediately pulls back.

He cups my face with a frown, and I'm thankful for once that I can't see what I look like. "Is it bad? She's shit at giving punches." I mutter, feeling my head start to pound.

"Nothing you can't recover from, Lynn." He says, gently pecking my lips.

I glance at the doorway and see Mila about to shoot Ashton. My heartbeat begins to quicken, and I gather all my strength to push Ashton out of the way.

I sprinted towards Mila and tried to grab her gun, but two shots were already fired. I whip my head in Ashton's direction and see he didn't get shot. Then I turned back and saw Mila with a bullet through her forehead.

I feel my body sag in relief until I start to fall backward. I try to stop my fall, but my hands go straight to my stomach.

Ashton catches me just before I hit the floor. I glance at my stomach and see it gushing out blood. I try to apply pressure but feel like passing out.

He grabs a cloth from the table where the knives are and presses it against my wound. Ashton lifts me and cradles me like a baby. "You called me baby," I say, trying to giggle. I feel my eyes start to droop, and my vision becomes blurry.

He looks at me worriedly and says, "Hey, stay with me." He shakily breathes and whispers, "I can't lose you, okay?"

He starts sprinting until we get outside. He opens his car door and gently lays me down in the backseat. When he starts driving, he says, "Keep applying pressure."

I nod, even though his eyes are on the road. My eyes start to feel sleepy again. Ashton begs, "Adalynn. I know you're strong. Please stay with me."

I try to blink rapidly to eliminate the tiredness, but it doesn't work. Try harder! I haven't lived long enough! "I'm sorry..." I murmur before blacking out.
