It was the best of the scientific age, it was the worst of the scientific age. It was the epiphany of scientific genius, it was the downfall of society, humankind had everything to live for, then absolutely nothing to live for. The truth is we were so far ahead in technology, but so far back that even the greatest experts agreed that society was losing its humanity.

"You know you have been recalled to life? Do you care to live?

"I cannot say."

• A Tale of Two Cities

Prologue

2080 is the grand year scientists finally find a way to cheat death - almost. It is more like giving a person a second chance at life. Hence, the name of the formula these scientists created -Second Chance Serum SCS or in its slang name, Recalled to Life. It literally brings people back to life. It sucks the death out of them. It sounds so simple and so easy, but there are strict FDA rules and regulations for SCS. There are certain guidelines to follow for the serum to even work - and even then, there are no final guarantees. There are no absolutes when it comes to life and death. But, when there is an option for a person to save the ones they love from an "untimely" death or a "freak" accident, then he or she, desperately snatch it up without hesitation. It's ironic, that some people have killed to get their hand on SCS syringe to save another.

SCS is a onetime use drug. After one use, the stress of the human body rebooting the first time somewhat weakens the body. A second time would produce no results. There was no coming back to the living, no resurrection, no Lazarus party. And, even then, it was agreed that there was no more playing, "God."

Many theologists and religious heads almost always pose the same question repeatedly when the protesting the use of SCS to Congress, "Which was worse? Cheating death or cheating God?"

People have to admit SCS it is a bit freaky...unnatural. But, it is not used when a person has been dead for any length of time. Now, that would be more of a zombie thing out of a horror movie. The serum can only be used right after a person flatlines, when organs are still "fresh." It is said that the brain is still active even when the heart beats its last beat. At least, that is what I was told.

Recalled to Life is a strange liquid that gives off this oddly fascinating aquamarine glow as if it were a glow stick kids cracked and shook to activate the chemicals to create the glow. Well, that's not how it works with SCS. The eerie glow are microbots emitting electricity. There can be more than millions of these extremely tiny robots floating in this viable solution to keep them active when the time comes. These little machines enter the brain like juggernauts, shocking the brain in their wake, They are sending pulses, and electrical messages from one synopses to the other synopses in order to get the brain to wake the hell up and kickstarts, more like demanded the body to boot up just like a computer.

All one must do is turn on the power. Once that occurs the rest of body should begin to function normally. The first message that invades a person's murky, foggy thoughts as he or she woke from the confusion of death, trying to discern if they were sleeping, dreaming or truly dead, was a calmly, soothing woman's that chimed," Congratulations! You have been recalled to life."

I know this to be true because it happened to me. I have been Recalled to Life, but ironically enough, I did not want to live. I wanted to stay dead. That choice was taken away from me.
