"Write a story that you would want to read."

Well meaning advice from an article long lost to the memory dump, but it still holds true – particularly if you are doing your own editing.

There are some things that you will definitely consider wanting to spend serious money on such as your cover and acquiring the services of an editor to add polish or clean up issues that you may not have even realized existed.

But, if you are like me, with a budget that allows one to have to learn how to do both – it simply means that you will re-read your story many, many, many times as you tweak and apply reorientation to your story structure and possibly even the plot.

So you better learn to enjoy it with every read, trust me.

Not entirely unlike other pursuits that I have had fun with, such as programming, barbecue smoking and motorcycle riding.

Each adventure that you set out on will undoubtedly have its own path, while writing offers you the ability to take that path and modify it to meet your needs so that others will enjoy it as you did.

Just remember to tell yourself that when you reread something that you have written for the umpteenth time and still find something to change.

Funny how things can work out that way, now isn't it?
