"Sorry, can't make it.", my coworker groaned in annoyance. For the second time, I had canceled plans. Everyone usually goes out for drinks but my excuse is always something like I have to unpack. Even though I have only on last box to unpack.
I have been patrolling and training a lot recently, I feel kinda bad but I mean it's not my fault. I want this city to be safe, considering I live here. I feel like I almost never home but Malik doesn't seem to care. In fact, we are as normal as ever which makes me think we will always be on track with each other. I packed up my computer and was about to leave when my boss walked over to me.
"Good job on that segment." I nodded and waited for him to turn away.
I walked quickly to my car and leaned my head on my car seat. I glanced at my watch. It was a quarter to four. Malik was expecting me home until later since I told him I was going with my work for drinks.
I looked around to make sure no one was around. I quickly made myself disappear. I pressed the button on my watch, making my suit latch onto my body.
I walked out my car and jumped onto a trashcan easily, from there I jumped onto the building. One of my favorite things about having powers is my agility. As I jumped from building to building, I heard a scream. I stopped in my tracks and listened for the scream.
My invisibility wore off and I walked to the edge of the building to see and girl pushed up against a wall. My face etched into disgust and I jumped down.
"Excuse me sir, I don't think what your doing is....enjoyable for the lady right there."
He scoffed and pushed her on the floor, turning to me. He pulled the gun from him jacket out, only to point it at me. I rolled my eyes and tilted my head to the side, a lazy smirk flitted across my mouth.
"Who will you shoot?"
His eyes held confusion but he answered cockily. "Are you as dumb as that outfit? The f^cking gun is pointed at you, ain't it?"
I shook my head slowly, closing my eyes. I concentrated. I watched as his eyes widened.
I glanced at my left and grinned when I saw my clone besides me. Her face was emotionless considering she only did what I told her to. Nothing more nothing less.
"So? Which one?"
He gulped audibly. "Both of you?" His answer came out as question more than a reply.
I grinned and held my hand out. The gun flew out his hands and into my own. I walked forward and pointed the gun at the man.
"Listen, you did something bad, now you'll pay."
His eyes popped out his skull and he held his hands together in a begging motion.
"Don't hurt me! Please!"
I let out a small laugh. "Idiot, I'm not going to kill you. You're going to jail where the guys in there can do what you were about to do to that poor woman."
He began weeping and I sighed. Crying people made me uncomfortable. The cops were on their way already and when they arrived, I left as did my clone. She morphed back into me.
I checked the time and I sighed. Time does go by quickly. I sprinted back to my car and went home.
Malik was laying in bed already and I sighed. I slipped in bed with him. I knew he was awake. "How was your day?" I asked. He didn't turn to me but answered anyway. "It was fine Eleanor." He sounded upset.
"What's wrong?"
He turned to me and hurt was etched onto his face. I repeated my question. That hurt turned to anger. "Are you cheating on me Eleanor?"
"Wha-WHAT? Why would you even ask that or think that?"
He stood up and paced the room. "I got a call from your coworker. Amber is it? She told me she hoped we finished packing soon, that way you'd finally go out to get drinks. To add to this, you ALWAYS seem to disappear at the most random times."
I swallowed. I stood up slowly and walked in front of him.
"I am not cheating on you Malik. I would never, literally never cheat on you. I'd rather die than do that to you."
He took a step away from me. "Then why are you so close to me all the time, yet seem so distant? It seems like you are always hesitant about your answers nowadays. What is going on with you? With us?"
I swallowed. I knew my eyes were going to overflow with tears soon. "I-Malik."
He scoffed when I didn't say anything. He walked to the bedroom door and turned to me. "I have things going on with me too, but I'm not pushing you away or lying to you."
"I am not pushing you away Malik!"
He laughed loudly but it was devoid of any amusement. "That day you went to visit your uncle, you stayed there two days without any calls just a text that said you were visiting him. I-I You can't do that, I was worried!"
I walked closer to him and hesitantly reached up to touch his cheek. "I'm sorry Malik. My uncle needed me."
His lips bunched into a line. "I needed you too. My Dad called me. And believe me, I have tried to talk to you about it. You are either at your Uncles, or at work."
My heart clenched and tears rolled down, finally free. "I didn't know Malik. I'm sorry."
He shook his head. "How could you know if you haven't had time to have a decent conversation with me since you visited your uncle last month."
I opened my mouth to reply but nothing could come out. He stared at me for awhile before shaking his head. With that he left. My heart felt like it broke into a million pieces. Here I thought everything was great, that we were fine and Malik was hurting.
