The Summer Rain

The time of youth, more known as summer was always the time to remember. The time when the blazing heat of sun's rays shine on the earth's face. All kids and teens were eager to spend their precious time with fun activities either going to the beach, have a vacation with family, or just plain sleep from dusk till dawn. Even though summer was still faraway, many students were already starting to talk about their plans the whole holiday. Jean and I were the same. We're already hyped the moment the school's bell rings.

"Can't catch me Jean!! You're going to eat my dust,"

We were racing to our home as usual. Somehow the weather today was too hot and I couldn't reach my standard.

"Are you sure man? I just started my engine. Woohoo!" Jean blasted of without looking back.

"H-hey, wait!. Don't leave me alone. H-hey, come back here!"

Really man?? I hope that he stopped, but he just keep running like being chased by some German Shepherds and slowly he disappeared.

"Shit, did he learned Meisaigakure no Jutsu without my notice? Now I'm alone in this heat. Maybe have become a heated meat right now,"

In the end, I just walked to home. There's no point of chasing Jean anymore if he already made up his mind. He is our school sprinter and no way I can catch up to him. The heat also making it worse.

I should buy the ice cream at the store up ahead or I might die here. How much money do I have right now? Let's see...

"Wait.. WHAT??! NO MONEY?? JESUS CHRIST WHERE DID IT GO?!"

I couldn't find the money either in my wallet or my bag. Did it fell out of them? Ahh my precious money...

"Hello son. What's wrong? Did a witch cursed you? Hahahah," an old man was suddenly  standing beside me.

How I didn't hear he came? I really need to check my ears and eyes after this. Additionally, I never seen him before around here. Did he just moved in here? Though I didn't saw any house for sale near here.

"Ahaha, actually no. My money was lost and I thought I want to buy some ice creams on my way back from school. Sorry if I have disturbed you,"

"Nah, it's okay. About the money, I can borrow you some if it is really necessary. What's your call kid?" the man asked me as of I am his child.

"Wow seriously ? I barely know you and you're lending me your money?"
I'm shocked.

"Yes son. Take it,"

"Thank you very much,"

"No one has ever become poor by giving, Anne Frank," he said with a bright smile on his face.

"Anyway,  I'm  Hudson,"

"Thank you,  Hudson,"

Who is Anne Frank? Well, at least she said something that helped me today.

I ran quickly to the convenience store and buy the ice cream that I want.

That was probably the last time I ran so happily. Lightning flashed across the sky, thunder rumbles from the distant and the wind rush across my face. The chilly air wasn't suitable for outdoor activities, but what choices did I have? I wasn't supposed to be here at this moment. The summer should be bright with sun shining in the sky, not scary thunderstorms threating lives on earth. The others would feel the same. Yeah, the others, if they were still... here.

"Calm yourself Tony. The storm only separated us for awhile. They're okay with 3 of them, instead of me alone,"

The booming sound of thunder signed that the lightning finally found its prey on earth. An old tree up the hill had fallen victim to the mother nature as it catches on fire.

I turn my back again to the cave I used for shelter. The utter darkness inside of the wet hole really brought me chills along my spine. The hole seemed like it swallowed every lights that came through allowing for anything to be unseen until its moment. On top of that, the cold air filled every corner and warmth seemed to have never tried to crawl its way in here. Guess I have to spend the night in here.

----------------------

"This is all your fault dammit!!" a muscular man with a hat on top and wearing paired shirt and jeans shouted.

"The hell are you talking about?! I didn't know the storm would be coming today," a long-haired girl wearing a long white T-shirt with dark blue skirt replied.

"Yeah, right. A future meteorologist doesn't know the storm will come. Serves you right for trying to act all clever,"

"What's wrong with you? You thought a meteorologist can figure out the future every time? I'm not a magician okay!"

"Ray! Amanda! Stop it now!" Jean ordered them. He couldn't handle their bickering anymore.

"Shut up Jean. This is between me and Ray. I'm trying to be nice, but this guy doesn't know to stop his stupid brain!" girl named Amanda was still trying to stand her opinion.

"You sl-,"

"SHUT UPP!!"

Ray couldn't finish his word because of Jean's yell. His words echoes through the forest they were in.

"You guys should be worried about Tony right now instead of fighting with each other! Seriously you guys," Jean just couldn't believe his friends.

They were lucky the storms weren't heading their way, it moved towards Tony's cave without their realization. The slumpy area they were at wasn't so good either. The sticky mud was obscuring their movements, they were crawling slowly exactly. Even though the storms were faraway from their post, the cold breeze was still felt by them who weared thin clothes, especially Amanda.

They were struggling with their condition, but they knew Tony was suffering something greater then them, alone.

Now the firewoods were all set up, just need some fire or heat to lighten it up. It was good that I joined the scouts at my school. The training I had done at the camp for the past years were handy in times like this. Gladly, I also brought my swiss knife together. I light up the fire with my lighter. Well, the lighter wasn't what you would use at the camp, but that didn't matter here.

I just hoping that my friends were here with me, at least they should be safe somewhere else.
