I felt the blood drain from may face, as all the memories came rushing back.
Ly and I at the airport. Ly and I mucking around on the beaches on the Amalfi Coast. Ly and I sharing a massive pizza in Rome.
Ly and I the night he chose Siena.
"Oh my god! Alia, its actually you" his voice resonated with disbelief.
His voice. It had changed over time. It was deeper. Rougher. It suited him to a tee.
I need to get out of here.
I nodded my head, my mouth still frozen since no words could force themselves out of my mouth. His brown eyes crinkled up into a smile.
"How have you been? Its been so long".
I think Im going to be sick.
"I - I'm ..." I trailed off, feeling my stomach coil.
"Hey Lia, are you okay?" his voice filled with concern, "you dont look so good".
"No" I said, finally forcing my mouth to make a sound.
"No, youre not okay?"
No. No I am not okay. Why would you even be concerned. It was you remember? Or have you just forgotten?
I looked into his eyes. So familiar, yet so foreign at the same time.
"I – I have to go" I said, turning around. Before I could walk off he grabbed my arm, causing me to turn and face him once again.
"When can I see you again and catch up?" he asked, his eyes hopeful.
I looked to where his hand was curled around my wrist. The feeling was warm and familiar. I looked back into his eyes, the deep brown like rich chocolate swirling as he stared into mine. I pulled my arm free from his now loosened grip.
"Bye Elijah" I said, turning around and walking away.
I turned back once to look at him, his expression forlorn clouding those brown eyes, before he was swallowed up by the crowd.
...
My head was pounding as I woke up.
How much did I have to drink last night?
Memories from last night bounced around my head.
Luca took me to a club called Angelus ... Sal was there and hes the owner now ... Sweaty bodies crowding the dancefloor ... a hand wrapped around my wrist ... short brown hair with blonde flecks ... familiar brown eyes ... Elijah
ELIJAH!
"Oh my god. No, no, fuck. He's here" I rasped, my throat dry from last nights drinks. I dragged my hands down my face with a frustrated groan. "Why. Why me? Why now?"
I pulled the covers back, swinging my legs out until they met cool floorboards. The bed creaking as I stood up and made my way over to the dresser across the room.
"Ugh, isnt that a sight" I laughed at my reflection, dark black rings under my eye from where my mascara had smudged in my sleep. My hair wasnt any better though, hanging down my back in a limp ponytail.
I need a shower. Stat.
Making my way to the bathroom, I grabbed my phone from the bedside table checking my notifications.
Nothing.
I turned the water on for the shower, watching as the room slowly filled up with steam. Undressed, I stepped in, lavishing in the hot water down my skin. I didnt dwell in the shower long though. I couldnt let my mind wander. Not to him.
