Why is the police here? I swung the car door open. I sped walk as I was nervously was running my hands through my hair. The first thing I saw was Mariana's mom, Michelle crying talking to the police. So this wasn't a party complaint this is worse. I ran up to her.

"What happened?!" I asked. I could see she's been sobbing for hours because her eyes were red and she could barely even talk. She was struggling to breathe and kept gasping for air. I didn't even notice how rude I was being, she was talking to the police.

"Marianas is gone!" She whispered very sadly. She starting crying even more. I got a tissue from my back pocket and wiped her with it. No matter what, I always had it there. I couldn't think about what to say that would lighten the mood. It was hard but Mariana did it all the time. How does she do it? I started to cry, I'm a man I tried not to cry but my mind just now went straight to her.

"How do you know she didn't just go to a store? Or just went to visit family?"
I said without taking a breath. Hopefully, she was safe.

"I called her like 40 times. And we only have 1 family member here in North Carolina. I already texted the member. She said she has not heard from Mariana in a long time. She can drive, but doesn't have a drivers license and don't you see her car here. Please oh please, has she texted or called you?" She had the worry in her eyes.

"No had not heard from her-" she started crying very loud and interrupted.
"-And how do you know she didn't come to school. She didn't but who told you?" I asked with hope. Maybe she went to school but just not 3rd period. Or skipped the rest of the day like I did, but at period 2.

"The school called me. I already asked if they could check their cameras to see if Mariana went to school at least 1 period." The words slapped me. Is this a dream? How will I live without her? I turned away before crying some more. I let go of the balloon. Crying as it flowed
Higher
         Higher
                  Higher and
                                   Higher.
The police continued talking. Then I realized he was talking to me.
"Sir... Sir...Hello, Sir" he kept repeating. Every time more and more impatient.

"Yes yes sorry, "I said as soon as I noticed he was talking to me.

"Did you know Mariana?" He asked suspiciously.

"Yes she is my-" I started crying.
"-she was my girlfriend" I sobbed.

"We will have to interrogate you, tomorrow at 6:00 pm. We will make a case about her missing and put it on the news." He said calm and steady knowing, a word could come out wrong.
I nodded then walked away. Then Mariana's sister, Cynthia ran out looked from side to side, spotted me and started crying running to me. She jumped in my arms as she hugged me, we both started crying together. She then pulled away and stopped crying.

"Do you have your phone with you?" She asked wiping her tears eye from eye.

"Yes. Why?" I said gasping then grabbing my phone from my front pocket. She grabbed the phone without answering my question.
She started typing a number. Then waited.

"I'm seeing if Mariana answers your phone. She has not answered any of us." She said. I haven't really tried calling or texting her because I had a surprise for her and would rather say everything in person. I looked up at Mariana's room up on the second floor. Her room could see the driveway. She's gone. Hopefully not forever. Forever... Forever. When does forever end? I could think all day about—

"NOO!" I heard Cynthia yell then toss the phone to me as she sat down by a tree in the front lawn. She had her knees up and her head on her knees. I looked at the phone. Nothing was there but I slightly heard something. I put my ear to the phone.

Sorry, but the person you are calling is currently disconnected. Please try again later.

I joined in crying while walking toward her.

We cried together until it got dark.

Why was she disconnected? Did she tell me anything about this before she was gone? Maybe she told me but I forgot? I'm such a bad boyfriend. I cried some more.
