"Well we think it's a good idea for us to take care of her." Mary says. There is something off in her mannerism.
"Are you sure?" I say.
"Positive." She gives a small smile.
"Why are you acting strange?" I ask. She doesn't reply, throwing pots and pans around like an episode of Masterchef. She frowns a little, trying to jam pots and pans into the dishwasher. I get up moving a few items and placing the pans in the dishwasher where they'd fit and she gives me a small smile. She switches it on and I go back to Archie.
After a while, he opens his eyes.
"Morning my love." He smiles.
"Morning! I have good news."
"Which is?" He says, eagerly.
"Your mom is gonna look after liv." I exclaim happy.
"That's great." He says.Archie's pov
There had to be some catch. Mom never jumped to answers like this. I want to know what's wrong with my mom. I slowly sit up. Time for a shower quickly. I get changed quickly and my phone rings while I'm drying my hair.
I pick it up.
"Hello?" I say.
"Hey Archie, it's your record label."
"Oh hi."
"I got an offer through but for a concert."
"Oh okay. Sounds good."
We go through basic wants and needs of concerts and I hang up. I walk downstairs and mom is sat at the table, looking terrible, reading through letters. She pushes her glasses up her nose. Her eyes are bloodshot.
"Hey mom!" I smile. "What's up?"
"Nothing nothing sweetie. What's up?"
"If it's financial stuff I can pay for you." I smile.
"No-no it's nothing." She says.
"Actually we are in a little pickle with money but we can trust Archie, Mary." dad says, entering.
"How much money you talking?" I say.
Mom shuffles her feet. "3 thousand dollars."
I look at her. How can mom need that much money?
I place 5 thousand on the table.
"Three thousand there." I say, grabbing the chocolate milk from the fridge.
"Archie can you pour me some apple juice?" Mom asks.
"Since when did you like apple juice?" I say. It's like the only juice mom didn't like.
"Since recently." She replies. I do as I'm told and pass her a glass of apple juice. She sips it.
Dad looks at her. She looks back at him. They both look so guilty. God knows why.
I look around the kitchen. Nothing is different just a few letters on the side, unopened and a shopping list on the fridge. I grab a pen and add a few things I like on the bottom of it. I also give mom 50 dollars just to 'cover the cost' of my two fairly cheap items.
"Mom, I've a concert soon." I say.
"That's great sweetie." She says.
"Then you can have a million. Or two. Apparently this concert is gonna rake in millions of dollars."
"Oh Archie. I don't want your money love." Mom says.
"I know but you spent over a million on me over the years." I say. "Oh and I got you a car seeing as though yours is still in Chicago." I say.
"Archie—" Mom starts. I cut her off.
"And because you're struggling with money, we can take care of liv or pay you so much for looking after her."
"No no you and Ronnie relax. We're good." She smiles. I go to Ronnie.
"Something is up." I say.
"Huh?" She says, applying a red lip thing. I don't know what it's called. A lipstick I think. It's like a stick.
"With mom." I say.
"Maybe we can help her feel better. Take her to the beach. Park. Amusement park?" Ronnie states.
"Good idea. I'll ask where she wants to go." I say.
In the end we both agree to go to a seaside town that was around a two hour drive away. I think six flags would have been better but oh well. I load my car, ready to go.
"Shotgun!" dad shouted, making v and Mom jump up.
"What the heck is a shotgun, Fred?" Mom says.
"It means I bagsy front seat." Dad laughs. "Another duty is song picking."
V Laughs.
"No fair. My songs are fire." Mom says.
"No they're not Mary!!" Dad says.
"They're better than yours." Mom says.
"Archie's are the best." V says, kissing my cheek before buckling grace in the car, before going round and scooting to the middle seat.
"I wrote a new song v." I say.
"The beach has an open mic. You should perform there." She replies.
She looks down. She looked gorgeous, her raven hair covering her face like a shiny silk curtain. She can do anything and look gorgeous. I get in the car and start the car.
We drive off and liv starts scribbling. Mom strokes her head and liv leans on me.V's POV
I watch Archie sing with the radio. He's so adorable. He smiles at me and I smile and blush a little. Archie is everything to me. He is my dream guy. Kind, caring, thoughtful, sometimes he's dumb, yet that never deciphers my view of him. Archibald Andrews was the love of my life. I felt someone take my hand. I look and it was Mary.
I squeeze her hand. She looks at me.
"I love you, you're like a daughter to me." Mary says.
I smile. "I love you too."
The ride went pretty quickly. We all spoke and had a laugh. Archie is a fun guy and he was talking about past experiences and his childhood. He told me about the time where he ate glue at preschool when they made slime and they had to call 911. Mary was shaking a little bit when she got out of the car. I wanted to check whether she was okay but her and Fred were whispering to one another so I didn't bother to be polite. I help liv out the car and Archie looks at me. I look back at him. We breathe in some seaside air and Mary and Fred approach.
"Wanna go to the cafe that we always used to go to, arch?" They say and Archie nods.
We walk through the stony car park and the cafe sits just round the corner with a clairvoyant opposite. There was a few tables outside the cafe with parasols so you could sit with pets etc outside, which some women did with their black Labrador.
The Labrador was lapping up water from a metal dog bowl. Archie explains that they used to do that for Vegas too. I've never been here before. We walk inside and the staff are really friendly, giving congratulations to me and Archie on the wedding. I smile. I can tell I'm already gonna like this place. We sit at a table for six but obviously there's five but the tables go in twos or single tables. We take our orders and me, Fred and Archie get full English breakfasts, Mary gets jam on toast and liv gets cereals. We all got lattes, apart from liv who got a fruit shoot.
The drinks came first and the workers waltzed around, passing food. Soon after Mary got up, practically running for the toilet. I followed her, she threw up and u held her hair for her and rubbed her back.
"V, if I tell you something, you can't tell Archie." Mary says.
