Tess' POV
I wake up to the annoying buzzing and sound of my alarm going off. I groaned as I rolled out of my bed and walked over to my closet to get my clothes. I decided to wear a pair of black leggings and paired it with an oversized pullover that had some old band that my mom listened to when she was younger, it is old so whatever writing that was once there was washed away. It was super comfy so I still wore it all the time, plus the crème color of it is gorgeous. I put on my socks then walk over to my vanity to fix my hair. I have super curly brown hair, there are a few fuzzy pieces but it looks pretty good overall so I just pinned the front parts of my hair back. I then applied a light amount of mascara to make myself look a little less dead than what I actually was. I smiled at myself in the mirror because for the first time in a long time, I felt pretty.
I walked out of my bedroom and seen my sister walking out of hers. She smiled at me and I smiled back. It startled her for a second, probably because of our little disagreement from earlier. She tired to mask her confusion of my sudden happiness with smiling more and asking me how my day has been.
"Just a lot of YouTube and sleeping then a little bit of junk food," I laughed after saying.
"Sounds like you are living out your full life in your room," we both laughed as we walked into the dining room area where we set the table then sat down after and continued talking until Patricia, my fathers wife, walked in with the food. My father, Ken, was already seated at the head of the table then both of Patricia's sons, Ryan and Jake, walked in helping their mother with the food. Patricia takes the opposite end of my father while me and my sister sat on one side and the boys on the other. I sat closest to Patricia, trying to keep as much distance between my father and I as possible. There was a lot of food, almost like a Thanksgiving dinner because Patricia always went all out when cooking. Which, although I hated her, she made some pretty good food.
"This food is great mom, you always work so hard in the kitchen and it pays off so well. Thank you so much," Jake said and finished off by shoving some mashed potatoes into his mouth to prove more of a point that the food was great. The rest of us hummed and nodded in agreement.
Patricia smiled and told us all thank you and tussled Jakes hair, slightly messing it up in the process.
My father was the next to speak up, but it wasn't to praise his wife. "Yeah, it would be a whole lot damn better if I had a cold beer in my hand right now," he angrily let out but laughed at the end to ease some of the tension. I rolled my eyes at his rudeness and continued to eat what was on my plate.
"Of course honey, I will go get you one," Patricia sweetly said back to her awful husband. She went to stand up but Jake rested his hand on his mother's shoulder to stop her from moving any farther.
"She has been slaving in that kitchen for hours to feed your ungrateful ass, you could at least thank her and get your own damn beer," Jake yelled out, he was fuming by the time he got it all out. But so was my father, his face had gone completely red. I felt bad for Jake now because I knew what was to come when my father stood up.
"Hey, it's ok, I will go get the beer. All of you just rest," I quickly said and rushed into the kitchen and returned to the table moments later with an ice cold beer for my father. I sat down after giving it to him. I felt a slight kick to my leg, it came from Jake, he gave me a confused look and mouthed "Why did you do that?" I knew my father was looking in both of our direction so I answered him by simply putting my head down and continued to eat.
A weird noise came from my father, like he was scoffing at someone, before he started to talk again. "What the actual fuck was that?" We all looked at him, confused with what he was talking about. When he seen that we were all confused, he began to explain. "All of that. Jake trying to get his set of balls then Tess coming to his rescue. What is going on here?"
"What are you implying?" Jake asked
"You two are sleeping together, aren't you? I knew Tess was a slut, but damn Jake, i thought you had some morals," Ken said while laughing.
"Are you fucking kidding me? We aren't sleeping together, we don't even talk to each other," I screamed. Which was a very bad idea because my father stood up, flipping his chair in the process from how fast he moved. I stood up too and prepared myself for what was to come. I could hear my sister screaming at my father to calm down, she was crying. I clenched my eyes shut because he was almost directly in front of me, I seen his fist draw back before I did. But nothing came, I just heard a loud noise.
"Get off me! That little bitch deserves what I am about to give her. Jake was on top of my father, hitting him. I don't know why he is doing this, he has seen my father hit me countless of times. Maybe he feels like this one is his fault and is trying to makeup for it? Everyone is screaming, Patricia and my sister are crying and trying to talk to Jake and get him up, but nothing helps. Ryan comes over and tries to get Jake up but he isn't as big as Jake so he doesn't move an inch.
After all of this goes on for a few minutes, we hear sirens and see the lights heading towards our house, I guess the neighbors called due to all the noise. This got all of our attention, including Jake's because he got up shortly after. We are all trying to recover from what just unfolded in front of us and can't think of anything else to do other than just stare at both Jake and my father.
The police and paramedics come rushing in and takes my father into the ambulance with handcuffs keeping him attached to the bed then take Jake into the police car, he is 17 so I'm not sure what they will do to him. He could play it off as self defense, right?
