Time is All We Have

Chapter 1

Alec's POV

Her last words before I slammed down the time travel device echoed in my mind. "Alec, I can go home now."

"I know. But I have to save her!" I heard her scream in my mind as I remember slamming down the device "Alec! Alec, no!! No!!!"

I dropped my travel bag as I gaze down at her body. I gulp "Oh, Kiera...." I crouched down next to my best friend and feel her neck, searching for a pulse. I blink and my voice breaks "No. No...." I fight back tears. I traveled back to save Emily, and now, my best friend is dead. Kiera wasn't supposed to die! I still have to help her go home to her time! "I changed things." I sob and look at her closed eyelids "I'm so sorry, Kiera. So sorry..." I sniffle

"Who killed me?" I turn around. It can't be! Two Kiera Camerons? She comes closer "Who, killed me?" I gulp " I-I don't know. Which one are you?" 

She raised her brows "Well, I guess that answers which one you are. You betrayed me, Alec." I back up "I-I don't know how this happened! If I had known you, she would end up like this..." Kiera shoves me back "My family may never exist now because of you! You've created another timeline! In the timeline with just one Alec Sadler, I don't get shot in the head!!"

I raise my hands up in defense "I know, I know. I'm sorry, Kiera, I wasn't thinking! It was the only way to save her!" she holds up her hand, revealing a series of dots between her fingers "You see that, Alec?" I nod. That's the coded identity of a freelancer. 

"You're not the only one that had to make a deal with the devil." I gulp "You. You're one of them?" Kiera sighed "The freelancers sent me back here so I can clean up your mess. I just have to get rid of one Alec Sadler. It may as well be you."

I heave a deep sigh. She's not gonna let me live this down. That much I already know.
