Chapter 2: A Deal With The Devil Herself

"If you want Peace, then fight for Justice"

As the city of Britannica grows rapidly with its population, criminal activities menace in the streets also increased by the day, thus, creating a more unsafe condition for the citizens of Britannica to begin their activities. For a solution to suppress the city's criminalization and to protect the citizens' peace, an official law enforcer was established in 1816 to uphold the law and justice in Britannica, which was called as, the Magius Police Department. It was compromised from many specialized and talented people that focused on criminality counter and prevention. In the present time, the Magius Police Department is divided into a different a division: the police knight, the forensic, the Public security, and the secret police. But the brightest icon of the Magius Police is their proudest Witch knight division.

The Witch Knight is an elite division that focuses on countering and investigating criminal activities that use magic. This special division only accepted female officer to enter their ranks as the mana of a female is more compatible with witchery. Because of that, right now, there are only women that composing their own 22 units. Each unit of the witch knight has their own jurisdiction around the city which divided into 21 areas. Most of them have a duty to protect and serve the citizen while also countering any lawbreaker that uses magic inside their area of jurisdiction.

There are many members from this division becoming an idol for the people of Britannica, as they are considered to be the heroes of this city. The most favorite ones are from: the 11th unit "Justice", the 18th unit "Moon", the 5th unit "Hierophant", and especially the 1st unit "magician", led by the famous captain inspector Elizabeth Swanstar, who is considered to be the strongest witch in her generation. With their proudest motto: "Veritas Magica, Justitia Praevalere!", The Witch Knight became a true symbol of the people's hope to bring peace to the city of Britannica.

Except for one unit: the infamous 13th witch knight squadron, the only witch knight that doesn't have any area of jurisdiction in their duty. They are famously known to do anything in their way to capture any criminal conduct. Destroying shopping carts in their chase, shaming any un-cooperative witnesses, and even burned a house to flush out a criminal are only some examples from their unappalled act. Most of the 13th unit's record is filled with track records of law violation and misconduct on the magic police operational protocol.

Even so, their criminal counter activities are higher than the rest of the other unit by 200%. Of course, those rates have been hidden away by the higher-ups to prevent any scandalous question from the people and the press. Until this day, this unit is only called by the people of Britannica as "The Bad Luck Squadron".

Sheila and Morris Finally arrived at the rooftop of the HQ. And on top of it, is a small old house with a chimney that seems actively being in use. It's architectural design reminded of you how a medieval house looks like compared with more modern and elegant HQ building. It is truly odd for a small old building located on top of the famous headquarter of the Magius Police Department. But that house is none other than the base of operation for the 13th Unit Squadron. Well, about how that house can be on top of the Headquarter or why it happens, don't ask.

"So we finally arrived, but...why is it closed?" Sheila pointed her finger at the front door of the house with a sign that says 'closed'

"Hu-uh, well then *leaning her body to rest inside the shade of the house* we'll wait for captain while we take a short break"

"Hmmm..."

Morris started to sleep in a second after leaning her body in the wall. Sheila, who still tired after yesterday's long work, tempted to sleep after seeing how peaceful Morris' face is.

"Alright then *Sheila leaning her body on Morris side* I guess I'll sleep here too!"

Both of them then sleep inside the shade on the front door of their base. The warm breeze of the morning in the shade helps them to rest peacefully under the summer heat of Britannica. For a moment, they forgot why they're called to the base in the first place.
