Samantha Brown

I remember watching hospital TV shows, such as "Grey's Anatomy." There were a lot of scenes were the characters would be running in pursuit to save a patient's life, knowing they were running out of time. I recall those parts being really, really suspenseful. Right now, I was experiencing a moment like that. The person I was trying to save was myself, and from disease known as the "being busted by Ms. Jackson." I ran up seven flights of stairs so by the time I got to Room 708, I literally collapsed onto the desk chair and lay there for a few minutes trying to catch my breath. Luckily, the patient is asleep, because right now I'm way too out of breath to explain what I'm doing here instead of Brianna and beg him to play along. I sit up straight at the desk and try to look as professional as possible when Ms. Jackson walks through the door. "Susanna, where is your uniform?!" She demanded strictly as she walked over to the desk. "Samantha," I corrected her again. I had a feeling I'd be doing that a lot. "And Brianna said that I wasn't required to wear the uniform on the first day of work." Ms. Jackson's beady eyes glared at me while she curtly formed a response, "I am aware that the hospital's general rule is you don't have to wear the uniform on your first day, but if you work for me, my rule is you do have to." "I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of that..." I try explaining but she cuts me off. "Oh never mind, Susanna, just give me the patients report," Ms. Jackson says exasperatedly. "Samantha," I correct her for the billionth time in a row.

A sense of relief washes over me when I walk down the stairs to Brianna's office. I'm just happy Ms. Jackson thought I was the one who did the check-up. I owed Brianna big time for that one. I also had a feeling of excitement. Ms. Jackson had just given me the keys to my office, and I was actually getting my own work place already! I headed down to the third floor, Brianna told me before I left for my first task that if I ever needed anything she'd be in the office on the third floor. Luckily, she told me the number instead of writing it down so I could find her easily. It took me a few minutes to successfully read "Brianna McCoy," labeled on her door, but luckily this time I get the right door because she answers the door when I knock.

"Hey," she says, "Come in. Do you want some coffee?"

Of course I can't say no to coffee so instead of asking her to help me find my office like I had planned I ended up hanging out in her office for a while. Funny how none of my plans today were turning out the way I wanted them too, but way, way better than I expected. I go to complete an assignment, but instead I end up hanging out with this hot guy and Brianna goes and does my work for me. I try to find my office, but instead end up hanging out with my new friend.

"Wow this coffee is great!"

"Thanks. So I have good news."

"What?"

"That guy I found you with in Room 103, well after you left I came back with a few other nurses and we think that he needs to stay the night because of his stomach. He'll be so close by." Then she raises her eyebrows and grins goofily at me. "Geez, girl your first day and patients are already falling head over heels for you."

I feel myself blushing my face is probably red like a tomato. "What, who said anything about falling head over heels?"

"You were on his bed. Come on it's pretty obvious."

I probably go even redder than I was before. "Only because he fell down and had trouble standing up. We thought it'd be best if I was close to him in case he fell again."

Brianna suddenly goes pale. "Wait... what? He couldn't stand up? Why didn't you tell me sooner?"

"Um.... I just thought it was because of his stomach pains? Why, what do you think it means?"
