Opal looked out the door and blinked, breathing in the crisp air as it ruffled her feathers, she sat on the floor next to the entrance, her tail swaying back and forth as she watched something in the distance.
Bumble shook out their feathers and looked over to the raptor in the doorway. They were standing at the counter and slicing veggues for a bew veggie tray. They chirped quizzically. Opal purred. She stood up, her eyes softened as she watched a tan animal lope through the grasses. A mother doe cranes her neck to look at a smaller deer - her fawn. The dark eyes glinted in the light, and Opal grinned as they looked her way, the doe's ears rotated as she ushered her fawn behind the brush.

Opal smiled, then looked over at Bumble.

"Want any help?" Bumble smiled and handed Opal a knife before pushing a pepper towards her. Opal carefully sliced the pepper, then glanced at Bumble and popped a small slice in her mouth, swallowing it quickly. She continued to slice vegetables, her paws working swiftly before she tried to adjust the cast-like structure on her arm. She scowled at it, gesturing the very small amount of motion of her left arm. "How long until this comes off?"

Bumble frowned. They knew their friend wanted to be liberated from the cast. It had been a few months, and Opal went home after the first week and all her other wounds were gone, but Bumble didnt want her to hurt her arm again. They remembered something their sister had taught them, that it took roughly 3-6 months for bones to heal. Bumble was still worried, but they supposed it could come off. They set down the knife and motioned to the couch, where sun was shining through the garden window. Opal followed her friend's lead.

"If it's not totally healed, we could make a moving brace? Attach some gears at the joints and it would be alright I guess... But I'll only do it with your permission..." Bumble thought that was a great idea! Their friend could move around and still be healing. The longer their arm was kept safe the better. Bumble nodded, then realized they had nothing to use to create it. Tilting their head they chirped. Opal seemed to understand.

"Another raptor I met once taught me how to make a clock using nothing but wood. If there were any sycamore trees we could carve wood gears out of the wood. The strong bark could act as the brace itself." She looked down, then at the metal gauntlets. Opals feathers drifted down. "Or we could use this metal," she said, holding up a gauntlet in her paws. "We could make the brace and gears with it... there's enough in here I'm sure." Bumble shook their head and looked down. Sycamore trees didn't grow around here, but they knew where they did. A place they had sworn to never visit again. Everytime they wanted to, they would talk themself out of it. But this time they looked their friend in the eyes and chirped defiantly. They knew where they had to go. Not just for the brace, but for themself.

They had to go home.

Opal looked up, setting the gauntlets down. She nodded, wanting them to say what was on their mind, but she wouldn't push them. Bumble stood and smiled weakly. This was going to be fun, they told themself. They would get to go on an adventure with their best friend! They would have to pack though, and so would Opal. Wanting to speak to their friend made them frustrated. They knew they could, but they just couldn't. Their jaws were closed tightly and they stood, defeated, before taking a breath and turning. They could tell Opal another way. They rushed over and grabbed their fur satchel, and pointed to it. Then to their basket. They picked it up and began to try to show that they wanted to go somewhere else. Hoping their friend would understand was all they could do. Opal smiled brightly.

"Oh. We're going somewhere for my... brace? And I need to pack for the trip?" Bumble imminently felt their anxiety lessen as their friend guessed correctly. Opal was the only one that really could understand them after they left home. Not even their sister... But they shook away that thought. Nodding, they blinked at their friend. Opal nodded toward the door. "May I go get some things from home? I'll be back quick," she clicked.

Bumble nodded, motioning to the door and waving their paws as if to show their friend she could take her time. They had to pack too. Opal nodded, then dashed off.
