I can't sleep, as a monster lives under my bed. Though I have never seen it, I know it is there. It is called the Toodaloo, I'll describe it for you.

It has big ears, that hear me move, as when I peep under the mattress it has gone. It bounds fast on padded feet that don't make a sound and hides behind the door, or climbs onto the cupboard in my room. It has a big shaggy coat like snow, as when I check in these places lots of white fluff can be found.

It has a long hairless tail, that it keeps warm by taking one sock from a pair. So now it is tail is wooly and multicoloured but I've only odd socks to wear. I swear it pinched the sun glasses I bought on holiday last year.

It eats pen lids as I can never find them, and plays an instrument of copper pipes in the middle of the night, that makes unsettling watery gargling sounds

It hides my keys, and then puts them back to the first place I looked. On times it holds onto the outside wall, with its big hands, and at my window makes ghostly sounds.

Every night at two am The tohdaloo is at its worse, whispering anxious fears into my ear, so I worry and can't sleep, but I have a way to stop the pest.

"Toodaloo, Toodaloo" I say, "I can do, go away, tomorrow is another day"
