It's early in the morning that I get a knock on the door. I know what this means. It's time for breakfast. I have just gotten out of the shower. I miss sleeping in. That isn't allowed her in Vanderbilt Castle though. I guess Walid gets up for his morning hunt and all the Betas have to be up and ready to greet him at the table before he leaves. It's annoying honestly having to cater to this guy.
I walk to the door in my towel and open it. The person I see behind the door is Dakota.
"I'm sorry. I should come back," Dakota states.
He looks me up and down. His face seems to get a little flushed when he sees me in my towel. A part of me feels great that I'm making him uncomfortable. There were so many times Dakota and I saw each other naked and I was always the one to get nervous. I was always the one to get uncomfortable. I recognized that face. And for some small reason I enjoyed seeing Dakota like this.Maybe that's why I drop my towel.
"No point. Are you OK?"
"Of course. Come on in," I state.
I'm butt naked and I walk inside my room. I can see Dakota watching me from the doorway. He doesn't walk into the room. His eyes are staring at me though. Dakota is staring at my ass from the doorway. I can tell. My wolf hearing is strong even in human form. I can see that his breathing pattern has changed slightly as he studies my body carefully.
"Are you OK?" Dakota asks.
"Why wouldn't I be?"
"You seem...different," Dakota tells me.
I shake my head. I throw my underwear beneath my feet and bend over to step into them and pull them all the way up. I turn quickly to see Dakota still watching me from the doorway. His eyes aren't on my head. They are still on my ass. Dakota starts coughing almost immediately and stares at the ceiling of the room as though attempting not to disrespect me.
"I'm not. Just more confident," I state.
"As in?"
"As in I'm figuring out my place here," I state.
Dakota nods hesitantly and grunts a little, "Doubt Walid won you over that quickly."Dakota is saying it as though he knows me. I don't like it. I don't like the tone he uses when he says that. It seems a little too confident. He even sneers a little bit and flashes me his pearly white teeth. Dakota crosses his arms. He's so fucking comfortable walking in here and just assuming that he could read me that easily.
"You'd be surprised," I state.
Dakota chokes a little bit. He loosens the tie on his collar. Ever since he came to this place he has been dressing so uppity. I guess that's just a point of being my guardian and representing for my pack. I don't think he was expecting me to say to say what I say though.
"Is that right?" he asks me.
We make eye contact. I think he wants to say something else. Right now he's being passive aggressive though. It makes me wonder what he really means by his question. If he wants to play these games then I had no problem playing them as well.
"Yeah. That's right. How's Yuma?" I ask him.
It's awkward. Dakota isn't backing down though. His eyes stare at me even though I can tell he feels super awkward with me asking him about my little brother.
"I'm sure Nadia and Nadim are painting his face for breakfast. I came to see you before I went over there."
I sigh.
