Unbuckling her seatbelt, Rona takes a deep breath before turning to her passenger. The light pink letter box is held tight to the seat by a seatbelt Rona buckled.
The box is filled to the brim with letters, and the only thing keeping it shut is a blue ribbon wrapped around the box, tied into a bow at the top.
Rona is really doing it, she's giving Nico the letters.
Rona picks up her phone and checks the time and sees that it's already 2 am. Rona was trying to fall asleep that night, and she just couldn't fine herself to. All that was on her mind was Nico, and she knew she needed him out of her system.
So instead of writing a letter, she thought it would be better if she got rid of them.
All the lights are off in Nico's place. If Rona did her research right, the boys wouldn't be home this cold winter night, but they'd just be landing from their road trip.
"Come on Rona, you can do this." Rona says wiping away her nervous tears.
With the last of her energy, Rona unbuckles the seat belt that's holding the letter box and brings the box to her lap.
"Just leave it on the steps, that's all you need to do."
After Rona's small pep talk, she finally gets out of the car and makes her way to the front door.
Sighing, Rona finally reached the front door. Rona carefully places the box right at the steps of the door.
"It's been good guys, maybe one day I'll see you all again." Rona says to the letters and more tears leave her eyes.
Stuffing her delicate hands into her winter coat, Rona steps back from the box and begins to leave.
"Rona? What are you doing here?" Nico asks with venom laced in his voice.
Rona freezes at the voice and quickly wipes away the tears before turning to face the Nico.
"Nico, I- I uh." Rona stumbles out as she stares at Nico.
"What's this?" Nico asks as he bends down and begins to untie the ribbons.
"It's mine, it's nothin-" Rona begins and tries to reach for the box, but Nico is quick to snatch the box from the ground and walk inside, leaving the door open for Rona to come in.
"I didn't know you were home, I thought you were coming home later tonight." Rona rambles as she quickly follows Nico into the house.
"I got an earlier flight." Nico says as Rona follows his voice into the kitchen.
"Nico, don't open tha-" Rona says racing into the kitchen to see all her letters poured out onto the kitchen island.
"Row, did you write these? For me?" Nico asks holding up an open letter.
"Psh, no are you crazy?" Rona says brushing off the topic.
"Were you crying?" Nico asks getting closer to Rona, but she makes sure to back up and keep space between them.
"N-no."
"Rona, stop lying to me. When you lie you stutter."
"S-shit."
"Rona just talk to me." Nico says clearly tired of her games.
"Fine. Yes, I wrote those letters. 87 letters in total." Rona say, heartbeat picking up.
"They're all addressed to you." Rona continued.
"Why?" Nico asks.
"I wrote a letter every time I thought of you, ever since we were teens, ever since I started loving you. It was a way for me to let out my emotions, and it helped for a bit."
"Rona..."
"But I've never sent them, because I was afraid." Rona starts but her voice becomes shaky and tears begin to flow.
"I was afraid of getting my heartbroken again, because that's all I get back from you, a broken heart. I was always there for you Nico, ever since we were kids. You were there for me too, but not the way I wanted." Rona says wiping away her tears.
"I'm so-" Nico starts as he step towards Rona, but she quickly steps back.
"Don't, please don't." Rona croaks before continuing.
"You hurt me so much Nico, I'm so afraid to be vulnerable, and I'm afraid of the way you make me feel. And I know that it doesn't matter now because you have a girlfriend, but I just thought you should have the right to know." Rona pauses before continuing.
"This is how I spent most of my life Nico, wanting you." Rona says, leaving Nico completely speechless.
"Please don't tell me you're sorry, just- just read the letters. I guess this is my way of saying goodbye in a way. I gotta go." Rona says as she rushes out of the house and into her car, hopping to never see Nico again.
