jungwoo was tired. no, he was exhausted, after his three-hour dance class, so when he got home to an empty house with a note on the fridge that read: 'jungwoo-ah, i had an urgent meeting, dad's still working. money's on the table for dinner. love, momma.', jungwoo let out a groan.the last thing he wanted to do was cook something for himself.
he does suppose he could just order out, but he didn't feel up for that type of food.
before he does anything he checks the cabinets and fridge for anything that is at least kind of edible and would fill him up.
sadly, he finds nothing and sighs when he picks up the money on the table, twenty-five dollars. jungwoo's eyebrows furrow, he probably didn't need that much, but his mother always does leave a little extra.
jungwoo shoves his sneakers back on and exits his house into the cool night. the grocery store was just a few blocks away so he figures he can walk considering it's only six pm and not dark yet.
he draws his hood up over his head and shoves his hands in his pocket, starting the ten-minute walk to the store.
----
jungwoo steps into the pretty much empty store, recognizing the popular song softly playing in the background.
he really has no idea what he's looking for, but when he strolls into the cereal section he shrugs and goes for his favorite type of cereal.
when he finds what he's looking for, he realizes that of course, they're on the highest shelf.
"shoot."
jungwoo looks around for any assistance but nobody seems to be around besides some stray customers walking by the aisle.
at first, jungwoo tries standing on the lowest shelf, trying to give himself a boost, but just his fingertips touch the edge of the box and he curses as he loses his grip and steps off.
jungwoo looks both ways, smiling at a fellow customer walking past the aisle he was in, waiting until both sides of the aisle are clear.
jungwoo just prays to god that nothing goes wrong(because he really just wants to get his cereal and leave) as he starts crouching, eyeing the box of cereal.
to others, he probably looked intensely insane, but hey, he just wants his cereal. it's not his fault that the workers decided to put it on the highest shelf which jungwoo cannot reach.
do they not think of the more on the short side people whose favorite cereal is also cocoa puffs? apparently not.
jungwoo takes a big breath and uses all of his strength to spring upwards, swiping his hand in the air, trying to grab one of the boxes.
he doesn't grab a box. instead, many of the boxes of cocoa puffs, and even boxes of lucky charms and cheerios come falling down on him.
this causes him to stumble back, falling onto his butt, a groan slipping from his lips.
jungwoo looks up to the shelf of what use to be cocoa puffs, then looks to the ground where all of the cocoa puffs, cheerios and lucky charms were now residing.
at this point, jungwoo really just wants to cry. his stomach rumbles, reminding him of his hunger. now he has to try and put all of these back. how he's going to that? he has no idea.
jungwoo turns his head to the side in shock when he hears a quiet chuckle, a tall boy who looks to be around his age is standing against a shelf, looking at jungwoo who's on the ground surrounded by different types of cereals.
"need some help?" the stranger's deep voice rang through jungwoo's ears, his cheeks a bright pink as he scrambles to his feet.
"yeah um, please?"
the stranger nods and bends down to pick up a couple of boxes at a time, placing them back onto the shelf.
before he can pick up any boxes of cocoa puffs, jungwoo grabs one and clutches it to his chest like it's something sacred. well, it is, it's his cocoa puffs that he worked hard to get. okay, maybe not so hard but it took effort.
"you uh- did you see it all.. happen?"
the boy nods, a teasing smile on his lips, "it was cute."
jungwoo tries not to show his amount of shock so he looks away, "uh... thanks?"
a hum comes from the male as he puts the last of the boxes back on the shelf.
"i'm lucas," the stranger says suddenly when he turns to look at jungwoo who's avoiding all eye contact.
"oh," jungwoo looks back at the boy he now knows as lucas, "i'm jungwoo."
a/n: everyone needs a little luwoo in their life. also, i know jungwoo's not really short, but for the sake of the story, he's just a bit shorter than his real height.
