Emaline on top| Chapter one
Starbucks; my favorite place to meet up with my best friend Ana. We're here right now standing in front of our usual cafe. The beginning of the Summer is here and we don't have any school left to do. "I can't believe we graduated girl!" Ana squeals while walking into the building. I am instantly greeted with the pleasant scent of coffee beans and surprisingly Autumn that hints the air.
"Do you smell that?" I question Ana looking her way to see her enjoying the smells. "All I smell is coffee." She replies, shrugging. I must be going a little crazy, I take another whiff of the air, and realize I probably look like a dog, but sure enough the Autumn scent still lingers in the air.
"Hey girls, what can I get you this time?" Sam the barista greets. Ana and I are typically not the ones to order the same thing so it's a puzzle for college student Sam.
"How about a unicorn frappe and three chocolate chip cookies." I reply with a smile, "And I'll have a cherry blossom frappe and one double choc muffin," she looks at me, "seriously how are you not fat?" I shrug as a reply and all three of us chuckle.
"That'd be $10.50 and five minutes."
"Oh come on Sam you've known us for a while why not a discount." I joke and slide him fifteen dollars, "keep the change." He smiles a little. "Got to keep the money rolling babe." He winks at me and I laugh."I think Sam might like you." My best friend's eyes twinkle with a knowing look. "No, we just joke and besides it's summer, I don't want a relationship."
Every summer we start single and just mess around. I,myself, doesn't do anything sexual, but miss horndog beside me does. "It wouldn't hurt just this once Emaline." Before I can respond our names are called.
"I'll get them, and no I will not do anything with Sam, it's too early." Knowing exactly what I'm talking about her face crumbles.
I go to turn around but hit a hard chest. "Oh I'm sorry." The Autumn scent is stronger and tingles erupt where a hand is touching my arm. "I'm very sorry I was not paying attention, did I hurt you?" A male's voice asks. I look up into bright blue eyes.
"I'm, uhm, I'm fine?" It comes out as a question and I mentally face palm, Ana on the other hand, visibly face palms. "You've got to excuse my friend, she gets flustered sometimes." I inwardly groan at the audacity of Ana. Smiling shyly at the guy, which if I'm honest looks like he belongs in a mythical world, or more specifically a God.
"I'm Emaline and this is my best friend Ana." I introduce us. "I'm James." He smirks, "Hopefully I'll be seeing more of you guys." And with that he walks out of Starbucks. I punch Ana on the arm and go up to get our orders. Sam ignores me completely, not even a smile is given my way.
I guess Ana was right.
