I Ate Your Cupcake Because You Stole My Heart {Ch.11 Going The Distaste}
I sat at my familiar Spanish III honors class. The teacher kept running her mouth even though no one was paying attention to her. They all wanted to see the victim of an attempted rape. They wanted to encounter the girl who could only try and protect herself and her friend. Well, behold! Here she sits in the back corner of the room counting the seconds until she could get the hell out of here.
'It's going to be a long week isn't it?' I thought to myself as I tapped my pen against my lips. Kristy and I were allowed to skip all of the assignments that we missed, because there was no way we were ever going to be able to make up all of the work, especially, in our ever so "sensitive" state. But our "sensitive" states could take all the school work. It would get things off our minds. It's the social aspect and the people and feeling alone that's getting to us. Kristy and I pretty much had all our classes together, but you're not exactly allowed to start crying and hugging your best friend while your teacher is trying to explain reflexive verbs.
The awkward bell chimed three times signifying the end of the period. I quickly threw everything into my backpack and flew the scene of the classroom. Kristy wasn't too far behind and ran up next to me. We both walked/ran up the stairs together not even looking at each other, but when we reached the top of the stairs she stopped and caught my attention.
"What are we doing?" she asked with a serious expression.
"Going to H.O.P.E. what else would we be doing?" I pronounced knowing that wasn't the answer she was looking for. She just shook her head. I looked away for a moment not wanting her to point out the obvious to me. Then I saw him walking down the hallway. My breath caught in my throat and the back of my neck went hot. I felt my eyes go wide as I stared in disbelief.
But there to confirm my disbelief I hear Kristy say, "Hey Ryan." Ryan saw us and smiled. He walked over to us and I felt my legs shake.
"Hey Kristy, hey Savannah," his eyes bore into mine and I felt his smile full of pure joy to see us. But I wasn't reciprocating the joy. This guy was a liar. A total fraud and I needed to catch him in his own lie, but not now. For now I'm going to get as much information out of him as possible.
"Oh Ryan, yeah hey did you transfer here?" I asked trying to maintain an even tone. I cleared my throat and regained a calm stature.
"Yeah I did. Technically I transferred here Friday two weeks ago, but you guys were still....recovering, so I didn't get a chance to tell you,"
"Oh awesome!" Kristy exclaimed.
"So give me classes and homeroom." Kristy demanded jokingly.
"Alright homeroom 132 and classes...here's my schedule." He took out a piece of paper out of his pocket. Kristy grabbed it with eager hands. Her eyes widened and a smile grew across her face...uh oh.
"Great! We have B, D, F, and G periods together! That's amazing that we have the same AP courses. I guess great minds take the same classes." She joked. I released a soft laugh.
"So I guess we can walk to hope together." Ryan interjected with a sing song tone.
"Yeah, sounds great." I said carefully eyeing him. He looked good in our navy blue Polo's and khaki shorts uniform. He casually ran his hand through his dark hair causing some passing girls in the hallway almost run into a door. I snickered under my breath as we approached 409.
I always felt awkward walking into this class. We were sophomores and this was a freshman course generally. I mainly did it because Kristy and Colton were doing it. And now so was Ryan. This should be fun.
I saw Colton sitting in his usual seat in the back corner. He saw me and beamed. I melted inside and I rushed towards him. I immediately took the seat next to him leaving Kristy and Ryan in my wake.
"Hello my lil daisy," Colton caressed standing up and giving me a huge hug. I giggled a little.
"I see we are already back to old nicknames." I teased as I slowly released myself from his embrace.
"Of course! I only want my lil daisy to feel loved." He casually began to lean against his desk as he grabbed my hand and gently swayed them.
"Well that's good to know." I smiled. I heard behind me a harsh clearing of the throat to see Kristy behind me and Ryan gone.
"Hey Sav mind coming over to my desk I have a question for you on some vocab." She enforced the urgency with her eyes and I got the message. I sighed and let my hand drop from Colton's.
"Be right back," I stated turning my back on Colton. Kristy immediately took me on the complete other side of the room trampling over some poor freshmen.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Kristy hissed.
"Um, talking to my boyfriend. Last time I checked that isn't illegal." I crossed my arms in frustration.
"No, you're toying with Ryan! Ryan told Matt and Matt told me what happened Sav! You freaking kissed him! He SAVED us! Now you're backstabbing him with this dirt bag?"
"What? He's a liar Kristy! Colton saved us! I even did the third degree questioning and he had all the facts straight. No one released any details about the accident and he knew ALL the details. I bet if I asked Ryan about them he wouldn't give me a straight answer. And Colton is NOT a dirt bag!" I was ready to scream, but we already were drawing too much unwanted attention.
"In my book cheating on a girl with a major slut in a freaking closet is pretty damn dirt bag-esque!" I rolled my eyes not wanting her to see the pain that blow had given me. It tore me up. I know he cheated on me, but he's changed, I've changed, the whole situation changed! If he didn't love me would he have risked his life to save me?
"Yeah I know what happened. I was there. But he's changed and I love him and he loves me. There is nothing you can do about that." My argument felt weak, even to me, but it was all I had. Kristy just sighed and shook her head.
"Okay. I just don't want you to get hurt. Sav just keep him arms distance away for now. You know until we find out what's going on with the whole Ryan thing."
"Yeah okay sounds bueno." I didn't really like the plan. I didn't want to keep Colton an arms distance away. I want him close, especially now. But for now Kristy was right. I had to see what the hell is going on with Ryan and I got to think of a plan before I do anything rash about it.
Just then Mrs. Pearson walked into the room and I rushed back to my seat. The bell starting the next period rang as I slid into my seat. I saw Colton smile at me, I looked towards Kristy and saw her worried expression, and I saw an empty desk where Ryan probably sat.
