Cole's POV

I leaned against the tree and let go of the cloth with my stuff that I was carrying on my mouth, trying to catch my breath.

It seems that I'm already safe in this distance. I looked back at the mountains and was surprised that I got this far.

My paws gave in and I laid on the ground, glancing around in the darkness. The Moon reached the peak, but it was not enough to light up the woods. My wolf's eyes adjusted in the darkness as I listened to the unfamiliar sounds in my surrounding.

I'm scared but somehow relieved. No one will hurt me here that's what I believe. I'm far from home.

I'm far from Austin and Arias but...

I'll be fine.

I should get some rest before I continue. My wolf won't last if I won't rest now and in this distance, it'll probably take them in the afternoon tomorrow to catch up if they send men for me, which I doubt.

Who would want for me to return anyway? The pack hates me, my mate abandoned me and Arias would not waste his precious time for someone like me.

No one would come after for someone like me...

I pushed myself up once again to find a place to sleep. Luckily, I spotted a space under a huge tree and thankful that I fit in.

I decided to shift back to my human while I rest. It's not safe to sleep in my wolf, a human might find me and shoot me. I rather sleep in my human even though it's cold.

I soon untied the cloth with the necessities I need. Rika prepared this for me. I smiled when found a couple of clothes, a blanket, water, fruits and even a fried fish that she packed as soon as I told her that I need to go. A smile stretched my lips.

Thank you Rika.

I pray that you are safe and unharmed...

I put my clothes on and ate my food before finding my comfort under the tree. My eyes soon gave in and I fell asleep hoping that I'll find my place somewhere far from home.

Once I'm safe, I'll find a place to stay and raise this child. I ran my hand across my tummy with a small smile on my face.

I thought Arias was my only way out, but I guess I do not trust myself.

I can do it on my own.

We will live freely, me and my child. Away from this pack and away from my mate.

I'll escape and be happy.

But I guess that was too much to ask.

A howl from a group of wolves woke me up and I immediately sat up.

The sunrise had only begun and yet they caught up!

Wrong! I shouldn't have been too complacent! They did actually sent men for me?

Why?!

I shifted to my wolf and bit my bag before I ran. Unable to retrieve my blanket and clothes I wore last night.

My chest was beating too loud as I ran through the woods.

They are far away but in their pace...

They'll catch up soon.

No, no, no, no...

I can't go back. Just when I finally found the courage to leave!

The sound of the lake caught my attention and I ran to where it is. Hoping that its scent would hide mine.
