As the days progressed, Divya and Abhishek came closer to each other. They were no more strangers to each other but had a relation of friendship between them. Their late night talks were a huge disturbance to Diya, who had scolded them in her cute childlike voice, "You both don't let me sleep in the night and then Mumma wakes me up in the morning. This is cheating."
Amused by her anger, the couple had apologized and would move to the balcony to talk. From college crushes to embarrassing stories, nothing was left untouched. The only thing that the couple hid from each other was the surprise gift they had been planning for Diya, on her birthday, which was only ten minutes away.
It had been a week since Divya and Abhishek's marriage. Divya had already won the hearts of her in-laws. While Vinay cared for like a father, Swati had been a great friend. Divya had started opening up to her and was grateful for having someone to listen to her nonsense.
In this one week, Divya had not heard from her parents apart from the dinner at their place. A few calls she made were either ignored or they talked very less. She did not know if they had forgotten that she was their daughter or were behaving like that knowingly.
As the clock struck twelve midnight. Both the couples were standing around the bed, on which Diya was sleeping peacefully. All of them spoke together, "Happy birthday Diya!!!!" Listening to their voices, Diya woke up. She rubbed her eyes and looked around. Abhishek placed a small stool near Diya and Divya placed a chocolate cake on it. Diya gave a big, cute smile to everyone as she cut the cake with the help of her Daddy.
Everyone fed the cake to Diya and gave her the gifts. Happily, she tore open the gifts. Vinay and Swati had given her a kitchen set, Abhishek had brought a big pink teddy bear, while Divya had given a diary. Diya frowned at the diary and then looked at her mother. Divya said lovingly, "Open it baby." As Diya opened the diary, she found it full of photographs - of her with Abhishek. As she happily looked at the photographs, Divya told her, "The pages are empty so you can keep sticking the photographs." Diya hugged and kissed her mother while Abhishek faked tears, "I spent two days to find that bear and you get kisses by giving her a diary." Divya smirked and said, "It's not just a diary, mister." Diya threw her arms around her Daddy and kissed him.
Vinay and Swati chuckeld. The family decided to sleep.
Next Morning
The entire family was sitting in the living room and having fun. Diya was playing with the kitchen set and would occasionally offer imaginary tea and snacks to everyone. It was the last day of Abhishek's holiday and he had to rejoin the office from the next day. He was fake crying and in return was receiving sweet kisses from his sweet daughter.
Suddenly, Abhishek received a call and moved aside. He greeted the man who had called him but soon switched to rejection mode, "No...I can not...please try to understand....I have just got married.....please...but...understand please.....no....alright, I will."
He was breathing heavily. His peace of mind was gone. He thought to himself, "No. I cannot do this. But I have to. Oh God! Why me? Somebody please help me. What should I do? I cannot refuse also." He looked back at Diya's happy face. "What will I say to her? And how will I say to her?"
