prologue

Prologue

It was the first day of school, and Calum Hood would never admit it, but he was nervous.  He was not quite as nervous as Eponine Fleur, though.  She was anxiously chewing at what nails she had left.  It was one of her habits that made her Eponine. 

Unfortunately, for Calum, he was the last stop for the school bus that would take him to school and back.  This meant that when he stepped onto the yellow bus, most of the seats were occupied.  Nervously, he walked down the aisle, quickly glancing at each child until he came to the very back of the bus.  There was only one seat left next to a slightly chubby little girl with wild hair and innocent eyes.  Calum could feel his cheeks tint pink, and he wiped his suddenly sweaty palms on his pants.

“Uh, can I sit here?” he asked.  His voice was barely above a whisper, but the little girl heard him.  She nodded.

“What’s your name?” she asked, surprising even herself.  Most of the time, she would hide behind her mother’s legs whenever she met somebody new.  People outside of her small family generally made her feel nervous.

“Calum,” he replied.  “What’s yours?”

“Eponine.”

“Ep… Epo… What is it?”  Eponine let out a giggle, covering her thin, pink lips.

“Eponine!” she reminded him, laughing.  “It’s not that hard, Calum.”

“Yes, it is,” he argued, embarrassed.  “Can’t I just call you ‘Nina’?”  Eponine shrugged.

“I guess that would be okay,” she decided.  “As long as you’re the only one calling me that.”

A/N: sorry this is hella boring but it's just a prologue it will start to get better and what not soon. this is just to show how they meet and how they instantly click and are bffs

and yes i got the name eponine from les mis fight me and i think the whole nina thing is adorable
