Chapter 1- Prologue I
Children left their voices trailing behind their speeding body as they chased eachother in a game of tag. The adults ran after the children, trying to calm them down, but the children clearly thought they were playing along. "Micheal," the kids paused their game for a brief moment as a nun gracefully called out from the shade, "Mother Elicia is looking for you. Come."
A boy of ten years, emerged from the group of kids. It was hard to tell whether or not he was ten due to his height. He blended in perfectly with the six year olds. The boy walked in beside the nun as she led him to a room. They stopped in front of the closed door.
"Groom yourself, boy." The nun commanded.
He did as he was told. The nun held the door open as Micheal walked into the room. Sitting in an arm chair was an elegant old man. His clothing and rings on his finger hinted that he was a wealthy man, a noble. Standing, was Mother Elicia.
"Micheal, allow me to introduce you to Earl Miles." Mother Elicia pointed to the old man.
"Pleased to meet you, I'm Micheal." He greeted the Earl as he was taught.
The Earl said nothing but nodded. Mother Elicia continued, "Earl Miles is your new adoptive father, isn't that wonderful Micheal?"
Micheal was astonished. He thought of himself as very old. No normal couple would bring a ten year old into their family. Why would this old man want to adopt me?
"I am very grateful." He shone a big smile.
The old man curled his lips up. Micheal was charmed by the man's smile which doubted the man's gray hair.
Later that day, he finished packing his belongings. His own personal belongings were not much. He did not realized what was really his until he started packing, everything- toys, clothing, shoes- were shared between the boys at the orphanage. Before he left in the carriage with the Earl, he took a glance back at the home he spent years in.
The carriage ride was not louder than a library. Occasionally, pebbles hit the cart, which startled Micheal. It seemed like a hundred years until they arrived at the mansion. The mansion was everything Micheal dreamed of. His new home was equiped with a large field and a beautiful garden. The best sight was the pond with a statue of an angel pouring water from a vase. It was majestic and beautiful.
"Micheal, hurry up." The old man said.
The inside of the house was striking. There was not much furniture but there was something about the simplicity that made the house eye-catching. Micheal was caught up in the splendor of his new home, which made the very impatient Earl tell him to hurry up again.
Micheals room was bare. Inside was a canopy bed, a closet, and a vanity dresser. Like all the other furniture in the house, the wood was dark mahogany. The big window beside his vanity dresser allowed some brightness in the room, making the room less dreary. The crimson red curtains also gave the room a pop of colour.
"Unpack your belongings. A maid will tell you to come down later for dinner." The Earl said before strutting off, down the halls.
