Two things cannot long be escaped from.
Two things would haunt us as mortals forever; death and the bitter truth. It was with little wonder that the news of the murdered Nun spread round crystal creek like wildfire, mostly amongst the teenagers.
TypicalAs I trodded down the crowded hallways of Covenant High with Jason I was stuck with the feeling of unease and dread. A voice in the back of my head constantly egged me, assuring me that the school year was going to be the most dreadful.
I tried to shake off the feeling but images of the bloody nun flashed continuously from my memories.
Ever since the dreadful encounter with Jason, life beamed at me from a different perspective. We were all on a timer. A timer that would go off sooner or later, leaving us to our inevitable doom.
"Dude. Quit fading out. It's creepy" Jason nudged me, earning a glare. "Loose the look, it's the first day of the school year, Pete"
I sighed inwardly, out of the consuming frustration.
Ever since Jason and I got home from the scenery of the corpse, he'd been acting out of place, like nothing ever happened.Sure my memories of that night were like a blur as I remembered the last thing I did was scream. Jason said I trashed and wailed and began to mutter strange words before the cops arrived. But once I woke up the next morning, he began avoiding the topic like a plague.
It was unnerving.
If being at the scenery of the murdered Nun didn't prove a constant reminder, surely the chattering teenagers flocking the hallways should have.He was clearly avoiding the topic, understandable but questioning.
"Why's this not your concern all of a sudden?" I finally asked, stopping in my tracks.
He raised a brow quizically and it did so much to inflate my anger.
"The Nun. Why are you clearly avoiding the topic and the discussion we had that night about the possibility of this being the start of something even much more worse?!"All eyes now centred on us from my out burst but I did not care. I was plain out annoyed.
Jason's features darkened as he took note of the prying eyes before speaking.
"Whoa, chill it Sherlock..why is this so important to you?... "
"You shouldn't have taken me there" I cut in lowly, the strength to argue had left me in seconds."I can't think straight and all you can do is act oblivious"He frowned.
"Peter, you don't understand.."
As if on queue, a familiar blond walked up to us, her eyes beaming with joy and life.
"Hey, Peter" she smiled, her eyes bobbing between us.
"Eva..."I drawled.Eva was Jason's girlfriend and more little an acquaintance to me. She was soft and full of life, in contrast to me; again. Her round face often reminded me of Snow white as did her pale skin. In entirety, she was beautiful, but not my type, clearly, or I'd have swooped her from Jason. I was that good.
"I'm not interrupting anything am I? It's senior year, you guys. It's meant to be happiness and love all through. I don't want you boys fighting" she whined.
I all but smiled passively.Jason placed his hand on her thigh and pulled her closer, causing her to giggle.
He whispered something in her ear and I caught the colouration spread through her cheeks before turning to me;
"Later, man" he waved dismissively before walking off.
Screw him.------------------------------------
----------------------------------------Taking my seat in the buzzing classroom, I was reminded of why I was a loner and didn't care much about knowing other people; the constant egging. I possibly could not stand it.
