Life never is fair to anyone.
Death wasn't far off behind either.

Some people toil till the very day they die. Others; have a taste of their acclaimed success, only for their happiness to be abated by the vile clutches of death in due time, thus proving my "timer theory".

It was with this innate knowledge that I felt sincere sympathy for the family of principal Higgins.

Higgins was like a round ball of humour and fury. His mood was either very cherry or very grumpy.
Nothing more or less.

He wasn't my favourite person, he was either yelling at me or rendering an insult to me the few times I was up close to him.
But he wasn't a bad man.
He honestly just wanted his students at the top of their games.

He didn't deserve to die.
Not like this.

Higgins was strangled. A rather sick and deranged method of murder.

The local cops had been trying to connect the murders somehow but they did not seem to colerate in any possible way.
While one was bloody and messy, the other was neat and traceless.

The air was dense. Higgins death hit the entire school like a train, leaving a hollow aftermath.

A crowd of students hovered before the deceased principals office paying whatever served as a tribute, under school orders.
I found solace at the back of the crowd, leaning against the wall, my head in my hands, a train load of questions and emotions surging through me.

Dread.
It was all around me now, strangling me even. I could literally feel it roll against my insides, causing grave unease in my gut.

The shuffling of feet besides me startled me, clearing up my thoughts.
I was partly releived, assuming it to be Jason.

I cursed myself on hearing Seth's ever confident voice beckon at me.
"Mourning doesn't look good on you" he taunted.
My brows furrowed instinctively upon registering his words.
"I'm not mourning. How can you make snide remarks in a time like this?" I asked, turning to face him with a frown.

He shrugged nonchalantly, "To be fair, I barely knew the man... New kid remember?" he smirked.

"Still... "I interjected, narrowing my eyes at him. "Why are you here...What do you really want?"
I noticed a bit of hesitation in his eyes before he spoke.
"We're friends, Petey. Aren't we?" he grinned.

Petey?
"Over my dead body" I hiss.
He chuckled, "Be careful. You may wind up like old man Higgins if you keep saying that"
"Imperio'' i breathed annoyedly causing him to choke on his words. He began to cough profusely, looking at me with red puffy eyes.

I cocked my neck, releasing my grip on him and immediately, he clutched  his chest, breathing heavily.
He glared at me "What was that, witch?" he hissed at me.
I only stare at him coldly before smirking.

"You're enjoying this aren't you? You think you can use your powers on me, you think I'm defenseless?" he grits.
"You did not get my threat earlier? Stay the fuck away from me" I sneer.
''Oh, well. This was fun while it lasted" he smirked before launching at me with inhuman speed.

I froze in spot, not like there was much time to react even.

I was smacked into the wall with inhuman strength; pinned by my neck, several feet above the ground.
His fingers tightened against my neck, seizing my breath.

"Mettez allocent" I screeched, before being thrown across the hallway.
Behind us, the crowd of students froze, courtesy of my little time spell.
