Darkness surrounded me as I lay in bed. I restlessly twisted and turned until I could find a comfertable position to sleep in. It was a long day at school and I had to take an hour long bus ride home. As I was thinking about the events of the day I drifted off to sleep.
I opened my eyes to a damp feeling on my stomach. I groaned as I pushed off the cold, wet ground. I sat still for a minute, waiting for my dizzyness and blurry vision to fade.
As the effects lifted I tried to stand up. A overwhelmingly strong smell of pine hit me. As I looked around I noticed that the dark and towering pine trees seemed to be swallowed by the thick fog. Patches of grass spotted the earth.
I slowly walked through the forest. A disembodied growl that sounded more like a gurgle brought me to a halt. I wipped around to come face to face with a black quadruped creature the size of a fully grown Great Dane.
It closely studied me with its 16 spider eyes that shone like tiny black beads. Its lanky body was covered with large, plate shaped scales, almost like a type of armor. It reminded me of the exoskeleton of a beetle. Tufts of fur lined its jaw. Its bony tail looked like it belonged to a Xenomorph from the Aliens film series.
We stood still, staring at each other, for what felt like an eternity. Without warning, it let out a bloodcurdling shriek as it started bolting towards me. I made a run for it.
I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I zig zagged around the trees. I plucked a pine cone from the ground and blindly threw it at the creature, only for it to be caught and hurled back at me at an incredible speed.
I felt a splitting pain where the pine cone collided with my head. The earth swayed under my feet as I lost balance and fell to the ground.
I woke to the familiar darkness I was engulfed in back in my bed. I attempted to move but all I could feel was a numb pins and needles sensation.
All I could do was stare in horror as the darkness morphed into the creature from my dream. It's five fingered hand pressed my chest making me struggle to breathe.
I tried to scream, but I couldn't make a sound. It snarled at me, revealing a row of needle sharp teeth. I locked eyes with it for a heartbeat before it lunged forward. I snapped out of my paralysis and covered my head with my arms, but nothing happened. I glanced around the room. The creature was gone.
Author's note: Thank you for reading. This is my first attempt at horror even though I've never read or watched any horror movies/ books.
I don't really know if this actually counts as horror since I personally don't really find this scary, but I guess it's up to the readers to decide. And I do admit that nightmares are a little cliché, but I had a lot of fun writing this. This is basically how I got inspired to write this:
Theme: A frightening experience
My brain:
YOU ARE READING
Paralyzed
HorrorAt night you want sleep, but that is when the monsters in your head come to life to turn a dream into a nightmare and escape into your reality.
