Punches after punches after kicks; we couldn't let the enemies separate. My partner Lara had my back, hitting anyone who'd try sneaking up behind me. In union, we took hold of each other and fly kicked every enemy on our sight. In a matter of minutes, they were all knocked out on the floor making us both sigh of relief.
"I thought they almost had it," Lara says.
"Same," I say, out of breathe.Just before we high fived, 30 more beasts came out of nowhere jumping on Lara.
"Eve; EVE, HELP ME!" She screams.
I run in and pulled a bunch of her, knocking them in their faces.
"What the fuck are these creatures?" I scream, out of anger.
As I got more and more off her, I pulled her up and I turn to tackle more. I could tell something was wrong with Lara, but I didn't let that distract me. As soon as I get every beast on the floor I turn to look at Lara, on the floor as pale as ever.
"LARA, GET UP!" I say, running towards her.
"Eve, I can barely breathe," She struggles to say.
"No Lara, hang on there. I'm going to call the headquarters," I say, picking up my device and calling the HQ.
"Eve, I can't hold on, just forget me man," She says, tearing up.
"WHAT? I'll never do such!" I scream. "Hello, Zion? Perfect. Call the chief over where we are... and maybe a first aid kit or two; NOW!"
"Alright, is everything alright Eve?" Zion asks.
"Oh, everything's perfectly fine, that's exactly why I'm asking for a FIRST AID KIT!" I scream.
"Alright, alright; he's on his way. But what's happened?" He asks.
"I don't know I just turn to see Lara on the floor looking pale as fuck!" I scream, mentally in pain.
"Alright Eve, stay calm he's coming in no time," Zion says.
"I can see him, oh thanks Zion!" I say, hanging up.
"CHIEF, CHIEF, OH PLEASE HELP HER!" I say.
"Isn't she..." He says getting on his knees, sitting by her. "VENICE!"
"Yes sir," Venice says.
"Help her, whilst I talk to Eve," He says, getting up.
"Alright sir," Venice says, getting down and feeling her heart beat.
"Oh, Venice, be ever so gentle with her please will you darling," I say.
"Of course Eve, don't worry," She says. The chief walked me away from Venice and Lara and looked me right in the eyes.
"Stop stressing firstly, she's going to be fine, trust me," He says.
"But-"
"Trust your chief," He says.
"Yes sir, sorry," I say.
"It's fine, now tell me what happened," He asks.
"Well- I don't know- one minute there were them creatures on her, next minute she was on the floor... then I don't know she just... oh I don't know! I say, heating up.
"EVE! I need you to stay calm, stop stressing yourself, you did nothing wrong," He says.
"Oh but I did! I was too busy fighting for myself; I forgot my own partner was in need! She was already weak and tired and I still left her alone to fight for herself!" I say, tearing up.
"None sense, there's no such thing as mistakes; only lessons," The chief says.
"Urm, sir... I feel no pulse," Venice says.
"Oh... my... god..." I say, almost fainting.
"Venice, get yourself and Eve back to the HQ, thank you for your help," The chief sighs.
"What about Lara? Where's she going to go?" I ask.
"To the hospital... before it's too late; leave," He says.Venice leads me to the mini jet on the middle of the deserted streets and got me strapped on as I never took my eyes off Lara. She started the jet and flew off in a matter of seconds as both the chief and Lara's figures turn smaller and smaller until the clouds got in the way, making them faintly disappear.
"I'm the worst partner someone could ask for," I say, sighing.
"None sense," Venice says.
"Is that all you're going to say?" I ask.
"I'd say more, but I rather you find out how life works all by yourself. I mean you're only 17," She says.
"Okay how do you know everything though?" I ask, looking at her as she drove the jet calmly.
"I'm 1026 years old Eve, I've been through everything you can think off and more," She says. "Even love,"
"Here we go again," I say, rolling my eyes.
"Yes, I may not be human but I've met the love of my life once," She says. "Perfect was an understatement,"
"Yeah well, you found a perfect significant other because like you said, you're not a human, have you SEEN the boys in our generation now?" I say.
"Well, I can't say for myself, I haven't seen the people in this generation... or the last one... and even the one before," She says, parking the jet in the runway of the HQ.
